Poured from a bottle into a weisse vase, the beer is a hazy, opaque, golden coloring with a fluffy, bubbly, white head. Aromas of toasted grains, subtle banana, grassy hops, hints of honey, and floral notes. Flavors are crisp and clean, with a tangy honey and floral flavor forward, grassy and cracker backbone, and subtle spice blend. Smooth and clean bodied, with a subtle fruity sweet and floral aftertaste. Crisp, clean finish. Good beer. (442 characters)

Pours cloudy yellow, 2-finger white head with good retention. Classic weizen aroma. Taste is a bit lighter than it would be expected. In conclusion, good weissbier. (164 characters)

A half pint served on-tap at Bier Markt - Square One into a Hopf hefeweizen glass.

Appearance - Hazy and golden in color, a decent two finger head was poured with good retention that coalesces into a small thin foam cap.

Smell - Banana and clove with a middling banana aroma and a less obvious clove smell.

Taste - Pretty much same as the nose, straightforward and to the point. Banana and clove with a sweeter than average banana flavor and very subtle clove.

Mouthfeel - Smooth, well carbonated a bit stickier than other hefes I've had. Also a touch on the thin side.

Overall - Certainly a good hefe that went nicely with my Pastrami flammekueche but nothing I'd go out of my way to get again. (701 characters)

Poured from 500mL bottle into a weizen glass.

Appearance: light golden hue with moderate haze and effervescence. Head is four fingers of frothy white foam. Quite nice.

Smell: wheaty, with a banana/clove aroma that is a bit more toward the clove scale than I prefer. A little light overall, but nice enough.

Taste: lightly wheaty without even the light phenolic character of the aroma. It's decent, but not a standout.

Mouthfeel: light body with a moderate carbonation. Like the Hopf dunkelweizen, I don't really care for the texture too much.

Overall: a reasonable hefeweizen, but not an outstanding one. (618 characters)

Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a lightly hazy light straw amber with a big three finger white head with good retention and lots of pillowy lacing. Great aroma from opening through pour of sweet wheat, banana, light clove and citrus. Flavor follows with sweet wheat, light citrus, banana and a touch of clove, finishing with a hint of tartness. Great banana bread aftertaste. Nice light to medium body with sharp active carbonation. A classicly flavored and tasty hefeweizen, with nice wheat and hefeweizen yeast, great balance. One of the best of this style I've had. Glad to have found this, apparently new to my local market. (634 characters)

Pours a hazy light yellow-orange with a foamy off-white head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Tiny chunks of sediment are seen floating around in the beer after the pour. Smell is of wheat, caramel, banana, and spice aromas. Taste is much the same with caramel covered banana flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with solid caramel and banana qualities that work together slightly better in the taste to me.

Serving type: bottle. (668 characters)

Appearance: Slightly opaque pear juice in color with golden hues. Bright white head that looks alive as it moves about. Head retention and lacing are minimal.

Nose: Banana bread, wheat, hint of orange peel.

Taste: Dough, crispy mouthfeel, a little orange and yeast.

Notes: a very nice example of the style. (318 characters)

Pours hazy golden, with a huge head.
Smells like a nicely spiced hefeweizen, nice clove, banana and nice green herbal notes.
Delivers. Wheaty malts, nice grains. Spice is mainly (heavily) clove, with some vanilla, covering the banana, which is mild, the lower acidic apple and the even lower lemon zest (which is great).
Hops provide the expected bitterness.
A decent, by the book, hefeweizen, nothing to say. (409 characters)

A- Straw colored with creamy white head
S- Fruity wheat- Apple-banana baby food
T- Lacking. Good but absent. Kiss of hops. Wheaty (obviously...)
M- Almost feels like the bubbles wont let the beer touch your tongue.
O- Refreshing but not exciting. A beer I would drink again if it was sitting in-front of me, but not one I would go out of my way to purchase (356 characters)

Weisbierbrauerei Hopf Helle Weisse

A- Pale yellow straw color, thick pillowy head, unfiltered and cloudy—looking delicious!

S- Yeast, bread, banana, light vanilla spice.

T- Nice and crisp! Great carbonation for a German beer. Light on the banana which makes it a very refreshing drink. Compared to the nose, this is not as banana-ish as I expected, but the hint of phenols is perfectly balanced. Very clean finish. Pleasant surprise, very much enjoyed! (457 characters)

Into a weiss glass. Two fingers of head on a cloudy, pale straw colored body.
The aroma is banana, lemon and banana bread.
The taste is sweeter for a hefeweizen with all the normal fruit: banana, lemon and a little grapefruit.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
It's a solid hefe. (294 characters)

Poured into a weizen glass. Pours hazy golden with a thick, white head that dissipates at a moderate pace. There are plentiful visible tiny bubbles rising in the beer. Some lacing is left on the side of the glass as the head dissipates. Some lacing is also left on the side of the glass during consumption. The beer smells like a hefeweizen should with plenty of banana and clove. There are also some lemon notes with the wheat malt. Overall, the aromas are all very bright and appealing. The taste absolutely follows the nose. The banana, clove, and lemon notes blend well with the sweet and bready malt notes. There's some mild tartness there as well. The body is medium with lively carbonation, yielding a crisp, dry finish. This is a refreshingly easy to drink beer. This is a very good beer. (796 characters)

On tap at The Twisted Kilt

Pours a hazy pale blonde colour, nearly two fingers of white head, decent retention with little lace. Smell is full of fruity banana, bubble gum, clove and spice as well as a buttery note along with malt, some yeasty points as well. Taste is a little more spice and clove forward, dry upfront with a little bit of sweetness mid palate, banana and bubble gum are there as well, fruity finish. Nice mouthfell, medium carbonation, medium weight. A nice hefe that was really easy to drink, although not a favorite for the style it is something I could see myself ordering again. (602 characters)

Pored from bottle into pint glass.

A- Poured a foggy golden body, small thin head that held great retention and some decent semi-slippery lacing that stuck to the glass as long as it could. Not much carbonation at all which was surprising since its a heff.

S- Kinda reminds me of a crisp belgian... Bananas and yeasty bread, some light malt too. Very unique!

T- Again very unique to me for the style, sweet malt, some banana and light clove, a bit sour in the end, can't put my finger on that. The yeast is really a factor in the sour sweet flavor I am sure though. Delicious!

MF- Medium Bodied with a light-medium carb feel. Very crisp/dry finish.

O- Love this one. I am a big fan of wiehestephaner heffwiess bier, but this is a huge change of pace in flavore and texture. If you want a unique Heff, pick this one up. (823 characters)

[Suggested Glassware: Weizen Glass]

The pour was a medium golden amber with an average (1-2 finger) white fizzy head that dissipated at a good steady pace down to a very light film and a small collar, which did allow for some light streaky lacing.

The aroma was of a grain malt and a light musty yeast with notes of citrus (lemon), banana, pineapple and a touch of coriander.

The taste was sweetly acidic throughout and had a sweet-tart pineapple flavor early on, then a yeasty tart fruity taste slowly but surely took over with notes of banana and citrus and a light hint of spice making their presence known towards the finish. The flavor hung around for an average time after consumption with a tart fruity yeast flavor left lying on the taste buds.

Mouthfeel was right in the middle of light and medium in body with a watery and slightly dry texture and a lively carbonation.

Overall an extremely flavorful brew, with great body and nice drinkable feel. I definitely see me drinking this one again...

A: Poured from a bottle to a weizen glass. Had a yellowish color and a cloudy texture. There was a big, creamy, long-lasting head. Fair lacing.

S: A very subdued aroma of wheat and that bubble gum aroma.

T: Tasted of wheat, a bit of malt, a hint of banana, and that bubble gum quality you get with hefeweizens. Not quite strong enough, but still an enjoyable flavor.

M: A well-carbonated beer with a smooth, crisp finish. Light-bodied.

O: In spite of some bumpy spots, this is a pretty drinkable, likeable beer. (515 characters)

A - Pours with three fingers of white foam on top of a hazy, straw colored body. The head settles slowly and leaves nice rings of lace on the glass.

S - Spicy wheat with lemon and clove notes.

T - Smooth wheat up front with some vanilla notes. Clove and lemon peel in the middle and a finish of pepper, clove and more spicy wheat.

M - Medium body, moderately high carbonation, and a fairly dry finish.

D - This is a nice enough weisse, the malt chracter is thick and pleasant, though the yeast is not as fruity as I would like it to be. (540 characters)

Hopf Helle Weisse has a very thick, fluffy, slightly off-white head and a hazy yellow-golden appearance, which really clouds up when one swishes the bottom 25% of the contents, bringing in the sediment. Nice lacing is present. The aroma is of bananas, cloves, and water, and the taste is of banana, white bread, cloves, spice, water, and the most minimal amount of hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is somewhat watery, and Hopf Helle Weisse finishes very refreshing, semi-dry, and easy drinking. Overall, this is a very good beer.

500ml bottle from "Lifesource" Salem.$4.49 Pours a gorgeous bright golden yellow, hazed, with a large thick and tight white head.I love the look of a good Hefe. Aroma ,slightly subdued/old?. banana, cherry, bubblegum, slight earthiness, slight clove. After the nice aroma, the taste is quite muted and more on the banana side, carbonation is almost non existent what is there seems natural, bottle conditioned and soft. After a while i got used to the softness and it became a nice smooth beer. A middling hefe..would love to taste fresh (530 characters)

Had this at Mesa Grill in LV. I faintly recognized the bottle from a book. Probably worth noting that the beer’s namesake doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re shooting for something like a hofpen-weiss.
Poured a cloudy desert sand color. Hazy and with a billowing head. Carbonation does fade quickly, though.
Bananas and vanilla cream are the standout flavors on both the nose and palate. Unlike some of the spicier or fruitier examples, this one seems sweeter and headed in the creamy direction. Hops are subdued, but keep the flavor from being too sweet and dessert-like. Texture was also great with no grit, although again, the carbonation died a little.
Tasty and easy drinking. I had it with some mildly spicy southwestern food and it made for a great contrast.
I’m not sure what the distribution is like for this beer, but I saw it a few times in the LV area. A pretty fine weissbier that leans in the flavor directions I enjoy most. Reminds me a bit of the one from Mahr’s.
Worth choosing over some of the more common examples in my eyes for sure. (1,068 characters)

Classic 500 mL bottle,

A: Pours a hazy gold with a full white head, good retention, nice thick lace.

S: Notes of banana and pastry, sweet character, true to style.

T: Lots of wheat malt flavour with a lemony tang. Nice true yeast flavour on the back end with a good banana backbone. Just a hint of clove.

M: Light to medium-bodied, refreshing, frothy and creamy. A mouthfeel that invites me to take another drink.

O: This is clearly a well made and delicious hefeweizen. The only problem for me is the price. Ayinger's weissebiers are sitting there at a dollar less and they're just as good if not better. Based on the quality, I'll make an effort to try the dunkleweisse and the weizenbock in the near future, but it's hard to put this into the rotation when it's pushing $5 a bottle when not on sale. (807 characters)

Hopf Helle Weisse

Pours a cloudy, unfiltered yellow with soapy white head.
Aroma has a nice hoppy nose, with musty wheat elements. In the taste, Bavarian style yeast lending muted banana notes. Earthy hops dial in on the back end, with spicy and grassy elements. Crackery malt character with a nice bitterness. Spritzy feel with a light to medium bodied feel. A fine hefeweizen, and lives up to its namesake, a fair amount of hops come through. (446 characters)

From my beer journal. Originally reviewed in Mid May 2011.

A: Cloudy yellow color with a decent head.

S: Lots of bananas and cloves. Wheat

T: Very bright sweet flavor. Absolutely tastes of bananas and cloves. There was something in this that tasted off though. Almost sulfury. Perhaps this beer wasn't fresh.

M: Light to medium body with lots of carbonation. Very creamy and tasty.

O: Again, there may have been something wrong with my beer. I'm not sure though so I have to review what I was tasting. (507 characters)

Banana milkshake!

Had it at Monk's Kettle during a tasting frenzy after a Giant's win.
Definitely the style of Hefe I like: heavy Banana.
The clove influence could have been a bit stronger

Very smooth thick and refreshing
Thick smooth head, cloudy amber yellow orange

Es schmekt Wunderbar!

Had out of a bottle at Monk's Kettle in the Mission district of San Francisco, CA. Our waitress used excellent bottle pour technique. Beer poured a rich cloudy amber. Smell was nice and wheaty like a loaf of fresh baked bread. The taste was surprisingly fruity. OMFG it tastes very akin to a banana smoothy. Not only would I have this again, but if you have never had an unfiltered wit-bier I would strongly recommend you try this. I'd buy the brewery if I could only afford it. (478 characters)
