16.9 oz. bottle poured into a weizen glass.

Appearance: Pours a very pale peachy color; very hazy. Super thick, smooth, and dense white head which has excellent retention and leaves a nice lacing.

Smell: Really minimal aroma. Over-ripe banana and some vague spices.

Taste: Almost generic heat/banana flavor with some indistinct spices. Nothing stands out. I mostly like it, but it's really unremarkable and unmemorable.

Mouthfeel: Very smooth, light-bodied but a bit viscous. Very light tingly carbonation.

Drinkability: Fine ABV and enjoyable to drink, but the flavor isn't so exciting.

Interestingly, I'm most captured by the mouthfeel of this beer. The flavor is pretty ho-hum. Still, I think it's surely worth a try.

A- pale straw yellow with a very active solid white head.

S- beautiful clean citrus aroma of early in the season oranges.

T- clean and crisp wheat beer with a wonderful yeasty orange hint.

M- eventhough wheats aren't my style, I love the way this beer feels. Clean and crisp, leaving the mouth completely humble.

D- smooth and very refreshing, wish I had more than just this bottle. I will buy more for the terrible summers in Florida.

apperance...poured with nice head....lots of brussels lace...a fairly light example of the style

smell....wheaty...and not a whole lot of the clove/bananna smell

taste...lots of wheat flavor and not a lot of fruity flavors and finishes with a minerally flavor

mouthfeel...lots of carbonation but....not overwhelmingly so...and creamy even

drinkablity...I would drink this if there where no other hefe weizens to drink and I was craving it..and I would not complain...but if there was something else to drink... I might have to

Pretty nice head retention and lacing with a very cloudy golden appearance. The smell does not have much metallic after smell leaving a dominate smell of clove and banana. Crisp and sweet banana with a tiny metallic carbonated taste that finish with a spicey clove bite. Smooth beer with just the right touches of carbonation. Easy beer to drink that has good quality.

Hopf Helle Weisse pours a cloudy yellow with a thick white head from a half liter brown bottle. The aroma is mostly over ripe banana. The flavor is on the sweet side, favoring banana as well. There is a touch of clove, but it's not strong. The mouthfeel is a little thin. Overall this is a decent hefe, it's worth a try.

How else would you refresh yourself on a warm summer day than with a hefeweizen? On to the beer:

Beautiful appearance with a nice fully head in my hefeweizen glass. Geez, I've seen this many times before, but it never gets old. Nice aroma of malted wheat with some phenolic and spice fumes. The flavor has a bit of a spiced muffin taste to it, with a touch of pepper. A very mellow flavor, making it a nice wheat beer experience.

Hopf was recently bought out by Hacker-Pschorr. I haven’t noticed any change in quality and I think the move really only benefited Hopf especially in the distribution area. The brewer sent me an e-mail a while back ago and was very nice. He offered me a tour and I haven’t taken him up on it yet. But I should, especially after I reading my notes for this Weißbier. The bottle was very fresh and the yeast was still in suspension. It poured a beautiful creamy thick weiß head. The color is a pale gold. The aroma was very nice and began with a bouquet of melons, banana, and citrus. Very complex fruit and little phenolic characteristics. Hops are to be found in the background however they are subtle. Dig in a little deeper and you’ll find and incredible very strong malt backbone to this bier. Aroma hits the mark for those classified in the ester category of Weißbiers. The flavor profile begins spicy note that’s is followed by excellent blend of malt and hop bitterness that lingers nice on the tongue. The yeast flavor is slightly bread-like and clean. This bier is surprisingly dry instead of sweet. Nice change and well done. I do have say I picked up a hint of phenolic character that bordered medicinal. It was buried in there and of course my tests are done at room temperature. It can happen even to the best. Cooled properly this beer is fantastic!!! Hit the Biergartens and enjoy!!! Zum Wohl!!!

Poured with a nice white head that lasts and some lace. Nice pale gold color until the yeast sediment hits it. Nice. Typical bavarian hefe weizen aroma of estery bananas, cloves, pale malts, yeast, citrus; but this one also had a hint of smoke. Date code on the bottle. One other time had an slightly out of date edelweiss from austria that had some some in the flavor. This is very drinkable. smoke isnt in the flavor. More citrus there. Nice finish.

From the 500ml bottle with no freshness date, into a hefeweizen glass. Hazy yellow with numerous large bubbles rising up; two-finger white cap that fades at a moderate pace leaving a thin cap and little lacing. Note that there is a large amount of sediment in the bottle. Nose is of citrus hops, tea, and syrupy malt. Tastes tangy, peppery, and wheaty, with citrus notes. Semi-sweet malt, faint coriander, and even some fruity apple flavor in there. Good, fairly complex hefe flavor. Mouth evinces middle-of-the-road viscosity with very light carbonation bordering on flat; smooth and satisfying overall. Drinkability is very good overall.

Overall: A good wheat beer; I think it would benefit from a touch more carbonation. Definitely a great spring/summer quencher. Worth a try.

Appearance- Slightly transluscent, straw gold. Not nearly as cloudy as most wheats. Very white head, with little staying power. No lace.

Aroma- Fairly sour. Not much banana or clove considering it's a hefe. Citrusy.

Taste- Nice, clean wheat with a citrusy zing. Nice after-taste, tho I can't describe it.

Mouthfeel- Nice and light. A tad overcarbonated, but it seems to work. Good CO2 bite on the lips and toungue.

Drinkability: Very nice. A nice easy drinking wheat. Good for just drinking, or refreshing when working out in the yard

Had at the Postrio restaurant in the Venetian casion in Vegas. The waiter poured from the bottle into a weizen glass. Had an opaque golden color with some head. The smell was the typical hefe smell with a great overtone of bananas and sweet malt. The banana was just the right mix and not overpowering. Really enjoyed the taste (most have since I ordered 3 of them during dinner) and wish I could get it here in Texas. Highly recommend and will be searching it out online or on trips to Midwest where I know it is available. (HR, 4.5, T, Y)

Poured into a Hopf Helle Weisse glass.
Huge white, fluffy head that lasts forever. Beer is a hazy golden/amber color. Tons of carbonation seen rising. Wonderful lacing.

Aroma is of bubblegum, quite sweet.

Taste has the bubblegum continuing and also clove, banana, sweetness and wheat. Interesting. Not exactly a typical Hefe Weizen, but good for the style.

Mouthfeel is very cleansing, light bodied.

Overall, the beer was wonderful to drink. Very refreshing and easy to drink. Could definitely drink quite a few.

Poured from a 500 ml. bottle. Leaves a good two finger hefe-weizen style foamy head with decent retention, no lacing. Body is a cloudy pale straw yellow. Looks decent.

Smell - cloves and bananas, faint saltine cracker-like wheat, some faint spicy hops, and a little bit of barnyard must.

Taste - weaker than the already weak smell indicates, and weaker than one would want. Not impressive on the palate. Not bad, just not inspiring.

Mouthfeel - medium bodied, slightly creamy, slight hop oil slickness, a little semi-dry.

Drinkability - this is not bad, but it's not great or inspiring either.

Nice enough appearence, completely hazy. Good enough head. For a German weisse I might expect it to hold a little better. Aroma seems a little offset, not overly enticing anyhow. Body has an interesting makeup. Crisp, seems off tap. Judging from bestbefore date this is either 2 or 6 months old. I wonder how much age has effected this. Drinks well enough, medium bodied. Carbonation is fine. No lacing. Bold on the wheat. Good bubbles. Interesting taste - offcentred from other wheats - wins points from me. Plenty of sediment. No real complaints here.

Appearance: A somewhat murky pale, straw gold. Decent pure white head, but not nearly the creaminess or retention I'd expect from a wheat beer.

Smell: It's all there -- banana, clove, citrus, paper -- but it's quite a timid little thing, just glances at you before grabbing mommy's leg.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Nice citrusy zing with a wheat cracker dryness. There's a slight clove flavor, but again, very mild compared with some of the beefier (i.e. better) versions I've had. Mouthfeel is light and crisp.

Drinkability: Oh, quite good, nothing to offend you here. Great as a beverage, not so much as a beer. McWheat.

Three months past due, but not really worse for the wear. Good foamy head, pure yellow colour. A bit of yeast and off smell. Great mouthfeel, with cotton candy texture of the what and yeast. Taste is a melange of wheat and yeast and assertive carbonation. A nice one. Thanks for the trade, Jan Biegeman.

500ml. brown bottle with some sort of code on the back label. This pours a slightly hazy (not cloudy) golden-amber with thin white bubble type head. Good carbonation is visable and helps sustain the head yet not much in the way of lace.

Faint, sweet smell mostly banana and some lemon with the wheat barely coming through.

Starts of wheaty and sweet of banana, then get a sour lemony tang with a hint of yeast. Finishes fairly clean, yet kind of dry.

Light to medium in body with the alcohol vaquely evident, a good easy drinker that suits it's style...hot weather beer even with it's dry type finish.

Appearance – This is a pretty orangish-yellow in color and very murky. The head didn’t explode like in most weizens but it came up nicely.

Smell – The nose is balanced towards banana. I prefer my weizens with more of a wheaty character, but this is perfectly within acceptable guidelines. The spices, mostly clove, are light and mate well with the rest of the aroma.

Taste – The wheat picked up a tad at the taste but the banana still dominates. I’m finding a very mild grain flavor as well. Otherwise it tastes just like it smells.

Mouthfeel – This is big for a weizen but shy of medium-bodied. The wonderful German carbonation is here in force and there’s actually a mild bitter finish.

Drinkability – This was clean and refreshing and went down quite well, although as I said my preference is for a wheatier mix.

Faintly foggy bright gold that is actually perfectly clear when backlit. I don't see much hefe in the bottom of the bottle and there certainly isn't any in the glass. The large, cotton white head is more creamysoft than expected and leaves very little lace as a result.

The nose is better than average. It has just enough power for me to appreciate a tangy wheatiness and a banana (especially) and clove (not so much) yeastiness. There's also a faint whiff of lemon that is a pleasant addition, yet doesn't smell out of place.

This is a good version that might be a great version if the flavor was more up front; in particular, the flavor of the yeast. How there's any yeastiness at all given the clarity of the beer is a mystery to me. The wheat malt-barley malt backbone is barely firm enough. The former provides a wee bit more sour tang than the latter provides sweetness.

Helle Weisse is one of the more bananarific hefes that I've had in a while and scores a 4.0/5.0 on my hefe weizen banan-o-meter. If you like that banana taffy flavor, as I do, then you'll probably have a good time with this one. Clove is just strong enough to confirm the authenticity of the yeast strain and no more.

The body is a tad too light for me. I like a little creaminess in my hefes and this one doesn't quite reach that threshold. Even with warming, it doesn't fill out much at all. At least it isn't both light and overcarbonated.

This is my first beer from Hopf Weissbierbrauerei. What better beer to start off with than the one that they consider to be "the prize product of the brewery"? Helle Weisse is an enjoyable little hefe weizen that has loads of banana esters, but is somewhat lacking in both overall depth of flavor and fullness of body. It's a fine hot weather beer though and is hitting the spot on this scorching July evening.

Yellow greenish, with a lot of carbonation. Quite hazy. Beautiful white foam, weizen-style.
The smell is quite fruity, with banana, and a generous amount of cloves, that mitigates the sweetness.
In spite of the apparent carbonation, in the mouth it is not excessive. Less sweet than you can expect, and quite balanced. Wheat.
In the spicy aftertaste, with cloves, fruity again.
Pleasant.

Pours an unfiltered pale yellow color with a huge fluffy head. Smell is right on cue to style with hints of banana and clove. Mouthfeel again is typical of the style with perfect carbonation and body. The taste however is a big letdown. It just does not posess enough body and character and is overly watered down. There are very small hints of the wheat flavor followed by the banana and clove just not enough. It just tastes like a lot is missing. Drinkability would be great on a hot summer day but it is just an average representation of a true hefe.

Cloudy nectarine skin with a rocky white head. The aroma is dominated by hints of wet cardboard and mop water, yet the typical banana/clove/fruit and funky yeast scents are still there. Big, sour citrus fruits with notes of banana and clove, bready malts along with a musty and earthy yeast character.
