Didn't know this store existed so I made a quick run over to see what they have on their shelves. It has an OK selection of beer but is the selection is less for the beer geek and more for the college crowd. Majority of the beers were in coolers with only a handful on shelves. Again, small selection of Missouri distribution (Bells, Founders, Firestone Walker, Stone, BLVD, Schlafly, Odell's, New Belgium) but mostly six packs. This is definitely more for the college quick in/out crowd, then the beer nerd wanting to make a score. I don't think I'll be back.

Grindstone is definitely a more college-student oriented liquor store than the others I've been to in Columbia. That's not surprising at all, seeing as they're located right across the street from an apartment complex that has a direct shuttle service with University of Missouri's campus. It also, unfortunately, puts a bit of a stranglehold on their selection.

The store is brightly lit, and gosh, 4 of the 5 times I've been there, the guys acknowledged my presence and that was it. There was one cool guy who started joking around with me when I couldn't get a sixer of Fat Tire out of their cooler. It was poorly stocked, and he acknowledged it. So, I guess they aren't completely quiet after all!!

So far as the beer goes, well... it's a pretty standard selection of breweries. The coolers are stocked with all of the BMC you could ever "want" to purchase. Alongside are beers from mostly the larger craft breweries: Sierra Nevada, Sam Adams, and New Belgium. Also, there were a few choices from Schlafly's and Boulevard, but beyond that, nothing special. The shelf, on the other hand, had a decent amount of beers to choose from. Belgians were definitely the most represented beers to choose from, alongside maybe a couple of the higher-end beers from Boulevard and Schlafly's (again). Not much else. Not really impressive, but good enough.

The downside is the pricing for sure. Compared to Arena or HyVee, for example, the beers are, on average, 0.50-1.50 USD more than the other stores around town. Kind of interesting considering that college students are, almost by default, poor. It's not one of the first places I'm going to visit to find a beer, even though it's the closest liquor store to my home. If you live in Columbia, I wouldn't call this an essential visit, though ti could be worth looking at for curiosity's sake. Don't expect to find any rare beers for a good price, though.

Grindstone Liquor is a "sister" store of Arena Liquor. It carries most of the same selections as Arena, but not nearly as many. They carry invidual bottles of good Beligians, like Chimay, Duvel, Brasserie de Rocs, and Trappistes Rochefort. It also has a good selection of microbrews (Bells, Boulevard, New Belgium, Flying Dog, etc.) And like Arena Liquor they have a fair amount of imports, too.

It is located directly across from The Reserve apartment complex, which is full of college students. I don't know how many of the students grab the good stuff from Grindstone.

It doesn't carry as much as Arena Liquor, but it suits in a pinch.
