Chip's has been a family tradition for several years now. Their selection of over 500 beers makes them a place that really can get you what you need. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They talk with you about what kind of beers you like and try to suggest other beers from what they pick up. The also have a pretty decent wine section as well as a few fine cigars. The atmosphere also makes this place enjoyable. The store is set up with nice woodwork and is generally a classy store. Value is great here. This is a great example of what a beer store should be.

I am a former employee of Chips Wine and Beer Market and have been debating if i was going to write this comment or let it be. After a few months i was still upset with how the Owner Lauren treated me when i had a family emergency. I worked there for about a month and was told how excellent i was doing. I was living in the OBX for the summer in order to build up savings before i graduated and went into the Navy. However, i am one of 10 children and my Father is 73 taking care of my 4 siblings who are all under the age of 16 (, 13,14,15,16). My mother tried to hurt herself and had become a horrific drunk over the past few years prior to this event occurring. I called Lauren to let her know of the issue and that i had to return to Raleigh Immediately to take my Mother to a Rehab in Wilmington. She was more than supportive and understanding of the issue. My father then asked if i could return home to Raleigh and help him with my siblings Th-M and stay in Wilmington the remainder of the days to help my Mother beat her illness. When I called to let Lauren know that i did not think i would be able to return to work for the rest of the summer THAT I WOULD CONTINUE my schedule for the next two weeks, Which again she was understanding of and very helpful. However, needing a job as a college student and giving all i had working there i thought she would be a decent reference to use because she did see and know my hard work ethic. I applied at another beer store in wilmington (part time) while i was checking up on my Mother. The Owner of the store i had applied to and had spoken to me prior to calling her. He let me know he would be contacting my 4 references. To say the least he called me back and told me that all my references had nothing but great things to say about me EXCEPT LAUREN who told him i wasn't a hard worker and not a valuable employee. Did i mention she was letting me and the other employees close the shop, do the inventories and count/close the drawers at the end of everyday. So when he called me back and told me what she had said i was a little caught off guard and called her. When i called her to ask why she would give me such a negative review, she told me "next time your going to quit working here and go work at the competition, don't use me as a reference". To say the least i was shocked, i told her that i was sorry but i had kept her up to date on the emergency and that i would of course give my two weeks notice. I was then told she no longer needed me to finish my two weeks. So i told her that my friend who lived in the OBX still would be coming to pick up my check. At first, she refused to give it to her and then i called in asking her to please give the check to her. She did but not before saying what i quoted above and hanging up on me. I absolutely loved the three other Employees and they always did anything they could to not only help me learn the routes of the store but to also provide the best beer and wine customer service to its customers. I also valued her, not only as my boss but a friend who became more of a motherly figure while i was working there. Besides the complete lie about my work ethic, i do not have one complaint about this shop and how it is ran. I still got the beer job and continue to work there today. That is why i still gave them a 3.5. Overall, the store is great with a great selection of not only Beer but wine as well and excellent knowledge of both. If you are ever in the OBX don't hesitate to stop by! But if you are going to work there look into it a little more before commitment and make sure you live there full time. Because of her comment i almost did not get the job but the owner said he knows there is always two sides to a story. I do wish them the best and i am sure they will fall nothing short of that.

Super helpful staff that made great recommendations. Great selection that was very well organized. Love the pick a six option. How can you not love a place that will sell you a pint and let you shop?

Will certainly become a staple during our OBX trips.

Chip's in KDH is a must for any BA's in the OBX. The staff is friendly, engaging, and knowledgable. The selection is as good as any you will find in the area. Plus, they have a good selection of cold beer in the cooler to your right as you're walking into the store. Since they added the bar area, I have enjoyed sipping on a beer (or two) as I shop. Chip's also has a decent selection of glassware.

Visited on a Saturday early afternoon in August as we arrived for a week in OBX.

A - Typically wine/beer store atmosphere, except for the rocking tunes. Need to try the attached wine/beer bar. I love the thought of browsing for my purchases while also drinking a high caliber beer.

Q - Many beers are available chilled. No complaints.

S - Service was excellent. Now they were not crowded, but the staff was quick to ask if I needed help. Provided excellent assistance when I did ask (about a Meritage for my wife) and we had a short converstation about the Doobie Brothers and how they were underrated as a guitar band.

S - Good selection for the OBX, but not mind blowing for some of us who might be from certain parts of the country or otherwise have a top notch store close to home. That said, there were still beers on the shelf that I had not had and there were sixes of my favorites.

This is the store I wish was in Moyock which is much closer to me. Very nice selection of beer, even had a nice selection of branded glassware and some nice gift packs I hadn't seen before. The guy there working was very nice and attentive to my needs and questions. Having some beers on tap was just the tipping point that made the store special for me.

In my part of VA going and having a pint and shopping for beer are two separate ventures, but at Chips you can do both, and they seem to have good stuff on tap.

This store again had some freshness issues same as the Moyock store, but then again there aren't many stores that don't.

If I lived closer this would be one of my main go to shops.

Pretty much the standard beer store, in terms of atmosphere and quality. The service was average, and the staff was friendly, talkative, and knowledgeable about their products.

As for the selection, this is where Chip's does a great job. There are several shelves stocked with beers. They have an awesome selection of individual bottles, so that you can create your own four or six pack. Also, they have every bit as impressive of a six-pack selection, as well. There are also beers in coolers for you to drink a cold one while you're there.

The prices at Chip's are what you would expect pretty much anywhere else. They had beers ranging from low end, all the way up to 15-20 bucks. It all depends on what you're looking for, but in terms of "market value," it's about average.

Chip's is a great surprise for any beer lover heading to the Outer Banks. The staff was very attentive and friendly, and seemed pretty knowledgeable about beer in general. The atmosphere is laid back and seems happy and welcoming. Every time I went in the service was fast and really good.

This place has a great beer selection, best in the Outer Banks. Not only do they have a very good selection of 6 packs and 12 packs, but the singles for sale selection was amazing: the place literally has hundreds of beers to choose from.

Good local selection and beers from around the US and world, this is the place to go for any craft beer fan. The wall of singles is set up in various styles and the cold selection of singles was very good as well. The prices are on the high side, but being from NY they were average to me so I didn't have an issue spending quite a bit of money each time I went it. I did not sample any of the beers on tap, but that is just another great option thatg they offer. This is THE place to go for beer in the Outer Banks.

When in the outer banks I always stop here a couple of times. It is pretty much the only game in town. Big city caliber as far as selection goes. As with most places that are the only game prices are a bit high. When the owner or his wife are in service is great, when they are not in service is fine. I emailed ahead of time and after one or two messages they held a few bottles for me (lips of faith and Allagash), stuff I can't get at home. They do have a couple of taps so it is nice to have a drink in hand while shopping.

This place has the ultimate beer/wine selection on the Outer Banks. Any beer lover needs to stop by Chips on their way into their favorite vacation staff. The staff there is very friendly and knowledgeable.

If you are looking for beers from around the united states and around the world this is the place to go. Very well organized and easy to find the beer you want. Do not hesitate to ask the staff for some help because they are very helpful and knowledgable in all things beer. They offer various tasting opportunities throughout the week as well.
