I didn't find the German yeast flavor in this as indicated. It is similar to all those Belgian yeast types of strong beers that are not my cup of tea in the past recent years.

Montreal July 2018. Hazy gold with a modest head. Wheaty nose with hints of spice. Medium wheat body with smooth mouthfeel. Well-hidden alcohol.

Le Trou Du Diable "Shawinigan Handshake"
on tap @ Le Projet, Québec, QC
Notes: Listed at 7% ABV. Typical weizen appearance. Aroma: Sweet wheat malt and banana/clove with piney/spicy/grassy hops. The flavor follows but drier. Well-balanced and rounded. Dry finish. The malt disappears, some clove remains, and the hops become clearer. Medium bodied with a creamy texture. Well-made with an interesting twist in the use of hops. I knew there had to be a joke behind the name so I looked it up. From Wikipedia: "Shawinigan Handshake is the epithet given to a chokehold executed on February 15, 1996 by Jean Chrétien, then Prime Minister of Canada, on anti-poverty protester Bill Clennett. The phrase comes from Chrétien's birthplace of Shawinigan, Quebec, as the former prime minister often styled himself the "little guy from Shawinigan"."

600ml bottle poured into Sam Adams pint glass.
Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow with two fluffy fingers of off-white head that leaves spiky rock formation lace as it recedes.
Smells of lemon zest, peeled banana, cloves, sweetly bready wheat malt, fresh orange juice, white pepper and more floral, citric hops.
Tastes of banana bread, spritzed lemon, fresh white bread, orange flesh, more peppery yeast and bright flowery hops.
Feels light and soft. Medium-light bodied with lively carbonation. Finishes off-sweet.
Verdict: Vigorously recommended. It's like a big, fluffy, huggable version of a hefeweizen.

I definitely love the overall presentation of this beer. The label, bottle, and story behind the brew are fantastic. The beer itself is not a style I love, but I definitely respect this brew. It is well crafted - hazy gold with a pillowy white head, plus plenty of clove and banana in the nose and taste. I'm pleased with the wheat backbone that gives this brew a solid base. Overall, a high quality product!

I'm going to go with "Above Average" for this brew.
Nothing stood out to me, but it was very drinkable.
The wheat presence was felt-- slightly hazy and lending a Belgian-style feel to things.
It was also slightly sour, which I associate with the style.
