Rob's was a nice surprise for me when I discovered it about a year ago. I needed some liquid yeast so I did a road trip to Salem to check the place out.

Overall, I was positively impressed. For a medium sized shop, they had a nice selection of ingredients and gear.

For example, they had both Wyeast and White Labs liquid yeasts. They had about 8-10 different varieties of White Labs and a good selection of Wyeast in different sized smack packs.

Most of their grain is pre-bagged in the front of the store. These are typically one or two pound bags. I was looking for a larger quantity and they were happy to pull together some larger vacuum pack bags for me, from their stock in the back.

They've also got a JSP Malt Mill on site, so you can crush your grains there, if you do not have a mill.

They also have a nice selection of brew gear. You can pick up Better Bottles in 5 or 6 gallon sizes, glass flip tops in a range of sizes, grain bags, carbonator caps, finings, etc. You can even pick up Corny kegs. I found myself grabbing a few things just because they were there.

All in all, a great local home brew shop and well worth the drive.

Living in Southeastern CT, Rob's is the closest homebrew shop to me. Once it got too warm for me to feel comfortable ordering yeast in the mail from Northern Brewer.com, I started going to the local homebrew shop.

Rob's is pretty small, but not bad for it's size. They close at 6 every day, so it could be tough for you to make it over there if you work, but they are open every day, which is more than you can say for some other shops.

Their yeast isn't always the freshest, but I use starters most times, so that isn't a big deal. Also, they special ordered Brett for me, even though they don't normally carry it, which I thought was really cool!

They have always been able to fulfull my grain bills and hops selections when I go there to buy ingredients. They also have lots of prepackaged extract kits.

Unfortunately, the weekday staff is not very sophisticated in their knowledge, but they try.

Overall, it isn't the greatest store you could imagine, but it is a good place to get your ingredients locally.
