Brief impressions:

BOTTLE: 50cl. Brown glass. Screen-print red & black label.

Served cold into a mason jar in Kuopio, Finland. Reviewed live as an ESB per the label (and, well, the name).

5.20% ABV.

No bubble show forms as it's poured.

HEAD: Fills ~90% of the glass. Pale khaki. Fizzy and thin. Retention is nice - ~7 minutes.

BODY: Dark amber with copper hues. Nontransparent. Translucent. No yeast particulate or hop sediment can be seen within.

Looks decent for an ESB, but it's not eyegrabbing.

AROMA: English pale malts. Faint diacetyl.

That's it...

A muted, light aroma.

TASTE: Ugh. Buttery diacetyl plagues the beer, and the English malt core is underwhelming. No toasty notes here. Maybe some vague fruit. Middling balance. Has an obnoxious bitterness on the back end.

TEXTURE: Tingly, somewhat coarse, wet, unrefreshing, medium-bodied.

There's no harmony of texture and taste.

OVERALL: Not a good brew by any means, and probably Malmgardin's worst work. Not a beer I'd revisit or recommend to friends, but I'll finish the bottle with some effort.

Recently stumbled across my notes from The Festival 2012. Lets do this!

A - Poured a nice hazy amber hue with a thin white head that faded to leave some like lacing and thin blanket.

S - Aromas of subtle toffee, light grassy hops, and light sweetness. Quite british smelling honestly.

T - Taste isnt half bad with some nice grassy hops, sweet caramel/toffee malts, and a gentle bitter finish.

M - Mouthfeel is solid for the style, nice carbonation, though I found it fell smooth a bit too quickly.

O - Overall, not a bad ESB. Have yet to be blown away by this style of beer though.

16.9oz dark brown bottle. Served in a SA Perfect Pint.
Pours a rich coppery tan color with a solid 2 finger beige head and loads of sticky, trailing lacing.
Smells very much like a British ESB except there's a dry earth and hard rye cracker smell that lasts throughout.
The British hops mingle well with the hardy, edgy biscuity malt flavors. A taste of fruit (pears mostly) inches forward as it warms. Tea anyone? A slight metallic tang is noticed in the background, as is tinge of lemon zest.
What starts as a dry and spritzy mouthfeel, soon melds into a well-rounded and nearly buttery slickness.
I like this beer...a lot, although it is a bit pricey for my budget at this time.

A: The beer is hazy dark amber in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin white head solely consisting of large bubbles that died down a bit leaving some lacing in the center and a thick collar around the edge of the glass.
S: There are light aromas of toffee and grassy malts in the nose along with some hints of fruity yeast-apples seem to stand out in particular.
T: The taste is similar to the smell except that the hops slightly overshadow the malts and contribute a light amount of bitterness. The toffee flavors then become stronger as the beer warms up, but then some citrusy hops also become detectable.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a low to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has a nice balance that sways back and forth between the malts and the hops and is also quite drinkable.

Pretty good brew! Served with a fine, cream colored that lasts a long while and some lace. Color was a clear medium amber. Aroma was hoppy, malt, grain. Flavor is similar to nose, but much more rich with caramel, toffee, & rye. Great forward bittersweetness balance with just a touch of carbonic tang. Body is also great especially for style; ditto carbonation. Finish is like flavor and very long. Session beer for sure.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a rich amber color and a hazy consistency. There was a big, foamy, long-lasting head. Very good lacing.

S: Had a subtle smell of malt, some hops and a sugary quality.

T: Tasted of malt, mild, grassy hops, and a little caramel. A generally well rounded flavor. ESBs are usually mild in the flavor department, but this one had a good balance to it. Actually gets better as it goes along.

M: A well carbonated beer with a dry finish. Medium-bodied.

D: This is one of the better non-English ESBs. Drinkable.

Hazy, light amber, with a quarter-inch, white head that fades gradually. Fairly thick lacing.
Smell is bready malts with some subtle, grassy hops. Light notes of caramel and toffee.
Taste is bready malts with a touch of roasted caramel. Some bitter, grassy hops come in after. Subtle notes of toffee and butter come in halfway through. Good malt backbone, as the finish is malty with a little bit of spice.
Mouthfeel is smooth, with a clean finish. Light-to-medium body.
Drinkability is good. Well-rounded beer.
