The Cat & Fiddle is an English style pub located in a historic Spanish style building.
You walk in off the street through a large iron gate into a really nice courtyard/beer garden with a fountain and tables shaded nicely by overhanging trees.
Inside is a large bar loosely broken into essentially four sections: the bar, large dining booths, smaller dining booths and the darts area (there are also a couple function rooms reserved for large parties).
The beer is pretty standard "English Pub in So Cal" fare: Guinness, Harp, Stella Artois, Newcastle (...wait a minute! none of those are even English!), Boddingtons, and Bass with a few other ill-fitted odd ball selections like Red Stripe and the basic domestics.
The menu is all over the place with standards like their Shepherds Pie, the Ploughman lunch, Welsh Rarebit and my favorite the Scotch Egg. But then there's also various items like Louisiana Crab Fingers, Grav Lax, some pasta dishes and Curried Diced Chicken Salad Walnuts and Raisins (god knows whats in that one! lol). With appetizers averaging $6, lunch prices at $9 and dinner starting at $12 and hitting the low $20s, it's not a cheap place to eat.
Being that this pub is located in Hollywood, you will occasionally see a celebrity here now and then. Morrissey was a regular at one time. But the general clientelle is mixed with Hollywood industry types, ex-Brits, young hipsters, bikers, white-collar and slightly off-white collar workers (true blue collars know how and where to spend their hard earned cash more wisely).
All in all it's a good place to meet friends, hang out and chat.
