While it's a great looking place, it's also very touristy, and fairly expensive, and usually crowded on top of that. It's got a highly polished and colorful British pub feel, but there's really nothing new about that now, is there? They've got 23 beers on tap (and a cider) but I didn't find them very special - keep in mind they're catering to tourists. The bottle selection is a little better, but again, you're right in the heart of the tourist section and they're not going to have any specialty beers from the local micros - they don't care about that, nor do they want that. The food is basic, and in my opinion expensive, but we've covered that. Here are some examples: Nachos $17.95, Cheeseburger $17.95, Fish & Chips $20.95, Pasta Arrabiata $17.95, Steak Frites $28.95... I think you get the picture.

Has a good old English tavern feel, decent place. For me the service was good and knowledgeable, proper glassware and the right servicing way (like a sommelier). The pub food is alright and at the right cost. Lots of music bands (mostly jazz). Vast selection of quality beers, lots of Belgians including Westvleteren 12 for 60$ and DeuS for around 100$. Although the prices for bottles are quite high, it's understandable for the quality you get. The place is relatively small, easily packed, and with loud music. So it's not always the right place to relax and eat, you can always go on the terrace for the street vibe which I enjoy the most. While I always thought this place was a tourist trap, this is a must go to for beer fans to at least taste one good Belgian ale in Québec city, but be ready to pay at least around 15-30$ for a small bottle.

We visited the pub sometimes. Everytime we tried à new beer. The choice is amazing but dont expect north american microbrewery .

The food is ok but pricy but its in the middle of the old city so its ok.

There are often invited bands and its realy good music choice.

The only negative point is service. Dont expect to have only salad if youre plate is both salad and fries, they Will say its to complicated...

Great place, good food, good staff, nice atmosphere, world-class beer selection. But it's way overpriced in my opinion. But if you love beer and you're visiting Quebec City you should go to the pub. Though I would suggests you should try Quebec microbreweries' beers, there some good choices there too.

A pub with a patio right on St. Jean in the old city... Sit on the patio, sip a beer, people watch, enjoy the street artists. Fantastic. The quality you are getting is fantastic, with all the beers I choose being fresh. Did I mention they had a list of 200+ with all sorts of beers. The only holes in their selection is the lack of lambics, and the didn't have one beer I asked for at the time...

Service was decent, they were crazy busy, but you had to get the waitress' attention, and the people beside us waite 2 hours for their food.

$8 a pint will never get 'reasonable' from me for local beers, even if they have an expensive rent...

A great bar in the centre of upper old town. Looks like your typical pub with a decent local tap selection (think St Ambroise, Unibroue) but the bottle list is what seals the deal here. Lots of private imports, and good deals on some of the seasonal bottles ($15 for Fantome) and mid day drafts. Grab a seat by the window and enjoy the people watching.

*Unibroue Maudite - draft
*McAuslan Griffon Blond - draft
*Brasseurs Freres la Recidive
*Fantome Black Ghost
*Taras Boulba

Note I would've scored the selection higher if a few of the bottles seem to be out of stock frequently, or they hadn't updated their listings in quite a while.

We are visiting Quebec City for the second time and were pleasantly impressed by Pub St-Alexandre. They have a long beer list and fairly reasonable prices. We just had sandwiches, very fresh, excellent crispy french fries.
We stayed with the quebec produced beers, both on tap and in bottles - Maudite, Don de Dieu, Trois Pistoles - but you could have your choice of Belgians - (no DeDolle). Service was friendly and happily english speaking to us losers who speak very little french. It is open for lunch and dinner and has a nice Pub feel to it. We would return.

Fairly busy bar on the main commercial street of Quebec City. A east coast style band was playing when we got there, which was kind of nice, but I'm glad we arrived towards the end of the set because it was a little loud for conversation. Reasonably extensive beer selection, but nothing that knocked my socks off. I did expect more impressive bottles, but it was a disappointment. It was also very expensive compared to what I usually pay for a pint. I guess its a tourist premium considering its location. Luckily, they had Trois Pistoles on tap, while the wife plumped for a Blanche de Chambly. The food was very good - I had a nice choucroute garni, and my wife went for a steak and kidney pie. The service was attentive and friendly.

When I went to Quebec City for the winter carnival, this was the place I spent the most time in. Has a great selection of bottled beer, which they like to show off behind the bar, and a good tap list.

The place has a fairly large front area and a small upstairs, feels a bit small though. First trip was spent upstairs for dinner and is kind of cut-off from most of the action downstairs if they happen to have any live bands playing. The next night we just went for drinks and barely got a seat downstairs, the place was packed, but the orders kept coming at a timely pace.

The majority of the staff understood English so getting orders wasn't difficult compared to some other places in Quebec that I've been to. Easily one of the best Pubs if you're looking for a wide variety.

I had heard about this place before my trip to Quebec and was eager to check it out for myself. There is a very homey atmosphere inside this bar, with some cushion chairs and low tables you'd find in a coffee house set up. I went the day of the UEFA soccer final, so the TV was down and the crowd was pretty good for an afternoon. The long bar showcases the over 200 beers in stock, along with a friendly bartender who made good suggestions.

The crowd was a mix of young and old, ranging between 20 and 30 somethings. But the real draw here is the selection. Heavy on Belgians (though they are much more expensive) and Quebec beers, this place had enough to keep the biggest beer savant happy. I'd say at least 25 tap beers, as well. Overall, this nice pub was brew heaven for me. I'm glad I got to experience it!

As usual I was on business travel alone and looking for a place to grab a beer and kill some time. This place was right down the street from my hotel and looked inviting so I wandered in. I suppose 4 o'clock on a Monday wasn't the best time to survey the atmosphere but oh well.
Anyway, bar had a great selection of local beers on tap (must have been about 15 of them) which is always a good sign. My French being a little rusty I agreed to whatever the bartender suggested at first.
I started with a nice stout, can't remember much about it except it was good. Not really chocolate-y or coffee-y just a normal stout. I then asked for a local pale ale but was turned down in favor of a cream ale. Bartenders who have the taste and integrity to turn down a beer they don't like, especially when someone doesn't know what they're ordering, are aIways worth a mention. To her credit the cream ale was great; very hoppy which struck me as unusual for a cream ale -- but it worked for this brew.
I didn't see much of a food menu (like I said it was prime jobless drinkin' time) but the beer menu was quite impressive. Over 100 beers, most in bottles but a good chunk (maybe 25?) on tap as well.

No TV's for the lonely traveler but still a good place to kill some time. Just make sure you bring a friend or a book.

This Pub is in the old section of Quebec. In keeping with the historical or old feel of the area all of the hand carved wood on the posts an walls are still on evidence. The place has high cielings and is well lit. Unfortunately there is no smoking ban for bars or resturants in Quebec. Fortunatly for me however it was summer and the doors and windows were open, so that was not a problem for me on this visit. The service was cheerful a gracious and the staff appeared to have a good working knowledge of the different styles of beer served here. The bottle selection was fabulous with the accent on many imports from Europe. Good draft selection included a local brewery McAusland on 3 taps. The food was excellent.
Note; brush up on your French before going to Quebec. Because even though the menus are translated to English some of the beer desciptions seem to lose someting in the translation

We stopped by this pub a couple of times in our weekend stay in Quebec City last summer. My friends and I were extremely impressed. I'm used to bars like the Moan and Dove (Amherst, MA), Anum Cara Publick House (Brookline, MA) and Sunsett (Allston, MA) so the selection didn't blow me away...but it kind of did. I've been to places with as many beers available but they did have some beers that I've never had or even heard of so that was cool. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable. The selection was heavy on Belgians, which suited me fine. They did have a wide selection of Unibroue and had a sepcial on 1837 bottles which suited my pallate and wallet just fine. The bartender recomended the Vondel on tap which I had never had before on tap or in the bottle and it was definately a great recomendation by the bartender and they get extra points for that.
As others mentioned, they don't have a wide selection of American beer. I had a conversation with the bartender and of course they were a little naive on modern day American brewing and thought there wasn't much beyond Budweiser here and didn't even know what an IPA was. Well, I set him straight and explained that even us Americans think Budweiser sucks and I preached to him about Dogfishead, Avery, Stone, Sierra Nevada and other brewers making the good stuff and he said that he would put the word out to try to order some if they could.
Overall, a great bar with great beer and friendly people

We stopped into this Pub after doing some shopping and needing a snack and some beer.

I had a Kriek that was served in the proper glass with the 3 rinse service. It was cool seeing my glass cleaned in front of me cause sometimes you wonder when the last time a glass cleaned ;-)

My husband had a huge Hoegarden (sp?), which was a nothing choice for him since he's had that before but he wanted something he knew was refreshing and he could order by pointing at the taps.

Food was good bar food, nothing spectacular. We only stayed for one beer and ate because we didn't feel comfortable with our limited french.

It was early afternoon when we stopped in so that could account for the lack of atmosphere.

A very cool looking pub in Old Quebec City. This place has almost 200 bottled beers and 20 excellent beers on tap. On my visit here I had a Belle-Vue Kriek lambic on tap and it came in it's own special glass. I also had a bottle of Kwak in its special coachmans glass. The total tab was only $15 (CAD) or so...so that's not too bad for those 2 beers. The atmosphere was very nice, very euro-french, and very woodsy. The waitress working @ the bar was quite nice and the food menu looked nice, but I did not sample any food...
Cheers!
