Musty aroma. Slightly funky, coffee, raisins and oak. Not amazing.
Clear mahogany colour with a creamy, tan head. Nice.
Smooth, bready malt flavour with rich, fruity esters. Not overly complex but there is a nice spiciness backing everything up. Mild bitterness. A light tart crispness is actually nice but reveals a light Brett infection in combination with the nose.
Medium-full body with moderately-high carbonation. Good.
A tasty Belgian influenced strong ale. While this is fairly simple, the flavour is good and it is enjoyable.

New to BC , this is a real treat . A barrel aged strong ale in a beautiful Pinot Noit looking bottle for under $10 from a small brewery in Chile. The beer pours dark brown with a huge tan head. The nose is smoky and redolent of hops and vanilla. The beer really shines as it warms up and the barrel aging comes out . I tasted vanilla from the oak and also caramel and smoky notes. The base beer is an almost Scottish wee heavy style empathizing the malt rather than the hops. Great beer that seems to be way under the radar

Nice mahogany color with a thin head with short retention.
Interesting aroma with notes of coconut that are quite easy to capture, caramel malt, raisins, vanilla and mild pine.
Flavor non-sweet piñacolada, vanilla, rum and cola, mild lemon and pine, plums, lots of oak and raisins. Dry aftertaste with a mild bitterness.
Very light body with low carbonation, so its alcohol of 7.2% abv is definitely felt.
Decent beer with good complexity, though it felt a bit unbalanced to me, its body could be a bit bolder to match up to its flavors.

750 mL bottle purchased in Punta Arenas after returning from Antarctica.
Pours a pretty dark amber with a fluffy cream colored head. A little lacing is left after each sip but the head dissipated quickly.
Aroma of caramel and vanilla, as well as some tea leaves and a nice earthiness. As it warm, some plum and raisins arose.
Though the aroma enticed me, the taste was a bit lacking. It tasted like a very sweet brown ale with just some dryness on the finish, which I assume is from the wood aging.
Mild carbonation works well for the beer, but there is a tannic finish that lingers for minutes after each sip. There is also a slight funky feeling on my tongue from the finish.
After tasting about 15 different Chilean beers, this was miles above the rest. For $6 for the 750, I would easily buy this often if it were available in the states. Visiting chile? Seek this out.

Bought in Santiago, Chile and brought back to the states in my bag.
I was surprised to see an American oak-aged beer in Chile, figured I had to give it a try even though it was my last day there.
Pours dark brown reddish in colour with a very slight head that dissipates quickly and a tiny bit of lacing.
Smell is nice...tons of sweet malty, carmelly notes and a nice bit of oakey, smokey vanilla...no alcohol in the scent.
taste is slightly dissapointing, tasty, bit of brown sugar, some woody character but it has a kind of wierd metallic, overly mineral taste.
mouthfeel is good, quite light, not sticky or very thick.
I was not incredibly impressed with most of the cerveza artesenals I tasted in Argentina/Chile, but this is actually a very nice drinking ale, except for the strange metalic character.

Picked this up while backpacking in Pucon, Chile. All the beer I've had hear so far has been far from impressive, but then again, Chile is world renowned for its phenomenal wine, and definitely not for its brewing skills. This one intrigued me however, a 750 ml Belgian Style Ale, why not?
Pours a dark ruby red with two fingers or so of beige colored, foamy head that dissipates rather quickly. Significantly better than the piss colored swill I've experienced from other beers here.
Nose is rather benevolent, boasting loads of dark fruit with some nice smoky vanilla undertones.
Some other reviewers note some sourness in this brew which I am unfortunately not getting. However, there is a definite cherry presence along with some caramel and vanilla maltiness to level it out. The smokiness like others have said is probably a byproduct of the oak aging, which contributes a nice subtly to this brew. A bit yeasty with no alcohol heat detectable.
Medium bodied with a semi-creamy mouthfeel. A well drinking brew that I shouldn't have any problem polishing off.
Overall, a pleasant little surprise to find down here in southern Chile. I wish I had the means to bring a few bottles back to the States to share, as well as see what the cellar can do for this one.

Poured a small bottle (330-mL) into a highball glass at Six Bar Restaurant in Vina Del Mar, Chile.
A: Cloudy brown--thick, creamy retained head with lacing on sides of the glass.
N: Caramel and a touch of sour cherries.
T/M: Immediately hit with sour notes of cherry, presumably from the oak aging. Light undertones of vanilla and caramel make their way to the forefront, but very subtly. There may have been a bit of a bret infection with this bottle as no other reviewers picked up on the sourness... however, I really thought this was good. Any time you have Oak Aging, you run the risk of bret getting into the beer and souring things up; I actually savor this type of change. The beer was strong and flavorful; easy to drink if you like sours, which I do. Not much of a hop presence, and the sourness was not at all overwhelming, just totally present. I may have given this better ratings if I knew the sourness was intentional.
I actually brought several bottles back with me, so I will find out in the future if my initial review was accurate.

Very interesting beer. Saw a beautiful wine style bottle with confetti labeling on the bottom shelf for under $10. From Chile with no english on the label, hunh. Strong at 7% but does not feel like it. Where this beer sets itself apart is in the nose. Good Belgian strong ale scents combined with tropical fruit. I really get alot of pineapple and coconut from this. A bit too sweet for more than a glass, but well worth trying. If your looking for something a bit diferent and exotic it is worth trying, if you can find it. A good beer to bring to a tasting party.

The Kross 5 Strong Ale is aged for three months on toasted American oak blocks. 750 ml bottle bought in Valparaiso, Chile.
Appearance: Deep reddish brown, nice lace, good head retention.
Smell: Roasted malt and raisin aroma. Kross says it uses five kinds of aroma hops but I found myself searching and not finding much.
Taste: Toasted caramel malts with rich plum and raisin fruity esters, medium alcohol feel that is smooth and welcome, some hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium to full-bodied, a little too carbonated and syrupy at the end, but a very nice strong ale.
Overall: Good strong ale for South America. Oak aging and a diverse grain bill have developed complex flavors to accompany the 7.2% ABV.
