Poured from 12 oz. bottle into Spigelau IPA glass. It pours a honey-amber color with orange hues and a large, long-lasting fluffy bright white head and significant lacing. There's not much to the nose; mostly sweet malt, light floral hops, and just a whiff of grapefruit. This is the epitome of a malt-forward, southern-style IPA; it's sweet up front with only mildly bitter hops, light pine, and just a hint of tart citrus. It has a medium body with moderate carbonation, and you can feel the 8.6% ABV. It has a little burn at the finish. Overall, it's a little one-dimensional but I think it would pair nicely with a bacon cheeseburger.

It is on these cold nights that I am really digging drinking & reviewing DIPAs. I could have sworn that I had done so with this one previously, but since there was a single in the cooler at the FGBS on a recent visit, I snagged it. Things that make you go "Hmmm."

From the bottle: "A dry-hopped imperial India pale ale with a powerful aroma of citrus and pine, balanced by a malty backbone."

I Pop!ped the cap & began a slow, gentle pour since I made doing so my New Year's resolution at the beginning of the year & I have been getting good results. Once it was sufficiently decanted, I performed an in-glass swirl that raised two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, light-tan head with modest retention that left great lacing in its wake. Color was Amber to Deep Amber/Light Copper (SRM = > 9, < 13) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was not as powerful as the label had led me to expect, but it was certainly filled with the aforementioned citrus & pine. Mouthfeel was big, full, thick & creamy, like a dollop on my tongue. I simply allowed it to lay there like a blanket so that the hoppy onslaught could take 'hold and lull me into submission. I liked the balance of the grapefruit & pineapple citrusiness with the pine mintiness, all underlain by a doughy, bready maltiness. I would hesitate to characterize it as "sweet", but it was not as outright bitter as many that I have had in this style. Finish, as a result, was right on the cusp of semi-dry & dry. I dug the way that it was a subtle variation on a familiar theme. YMMV.

I like this DIPA. Better than some because there is a malty-complexity to it that really gives it balance. It is a little less hop forward, but the resins do hit you on the finish- which is smooth, creamy, and a nice mix of malt & hop bitter

Very strong hoppy and citrus smell and taste but a very satisfying after taste that dry with enough malt to it that there isn't the bitter aftertaste of some other beers with a strong hop initial taste. Pours gold to copper with 1/4-1/2" white head. Definitely worth a repeat. Paired it with a lightly seasoned/buttered fish...nice.
