A: nice lacing on a slightly hazy crimson with golden hues body. Single finger head.

S: very sweet with candied oranges, caramel malts, yeast.

T: nice malt character to this one. A little light on the yeast ad spices you look for from a Belgian. Candied oranges make up most of the citrus aspects.

M: medium body and moderate carbonation.

Overall: very drinkable. The alcohol is well hidden. I enjoyed having this at the brewery. A great place to come and enjoy beers.

Poured from a 750 ml brown bottle into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass. Packaged on 07/24/12 stamped on label. Purchased at Market Street Wineshop (Charlottesville, VA).

A: A fairly clear orange amber with a big-bubbled 2-finger off-white head with so-so retention and only a few scant spots of lace.

S: The aroma is strong on apples and run-soaked pears with a light noble hops note that seems accentuated by citrus and floral qualities. The malt component is lightly crackery.

T: THe yeast gets quite a bit too carried away, especially if this modeled after Duvel. The fruity esters -- pear, apple, peaches, in the nose are overpowering and too strong for the style and would be better suited to a Belgian pale ale style where a subdued profile is less desirable. The maltiness is fairly background with only a touch of cereal graininess. The hops are floral and more citrus in nature, maybe owing to the intensely fruity esters from the yeast. The yeast tang in the finish is too much, I just feel this style should have more of a subdued yeast character and let the maltiness rule the beer. The alcohol is pungent and also sweetly fruity in a cherry-berry fashion.

M: The body is a bit too heavy but not bad and the carbonation seems right-on. The finish is prickly and dry, but the yeastiness is a bit over-the-top with esters, and the alcohol is a bit solventy.

O: Not terrible but it seems like it was fermented way too hot, as the esters are a little out of control for the style and overwhelms both the malt and hops components, leaving an intensely estery, yeasty Belgian style beer that isn't so easy to drink. Definitely for sharing.
