22 oz bottle into a pint glass. From notes; bottled in Dec. 2012.

A: Pours a clear dark red color, with a pale yellow head that's a finger high. There isn't much lacing left on the glass, but the retention isn't bad.

S: I'm getting slight smoke from the malt, along with a caramel-y touch. There's also a bit of brown sugar and phenol. Not bad.

T: It starts with some mild smoky caramel. There seems to be some leafy hop bitterness on the back end, too. Slightly phenolic, too. Kind of low on flavor, especially for 9.3%. On the plus side, it's easy to drink.

M: It's coarse-feeling and dry finishing, along with a relative lightness that makes it quite drinkable. Carbonation is par for the style.

O: I don't think it's aged spectacularly, but it's not irredeemable in its current state - just bland. No need to seek this one out.

Pours dark ruby to near mahogany, deep amber against my computer screen. 1 1/2 finger light tan head that dissipates quickly leaving moderate lacing.

Fruity and citric in aroma with a bit of caramel and spice.

A bit overbalanced in the bitter department in my opinion. Some sweet malts up front with a hint of caramel and the occasional fruity cherry in the back of the mouth, but a bitter, burnt taste hovers over it all. It seems a bit raw, maybe a little more time would improve it.

Medium full in body, light bite of carbonation and oily burn in the throat.

Decent overall, perhaps the oily burn implies overly much bittering hops as opposed to the burnt malt taste I mentioned earlier. It seemed to mellow just a bit as it warmed, but I still think it's a bit raw. I liked it better in the end.
