22 ounce bottle - Barrel & Barley Craft Beer Market

Hand-written package date of 2-24-14.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown body with a smallish, brief, light tan head.

Smell: A rush of fresh-roasted coffee beans atop roasty, lightly chocolaty malts, a hint of a burnt element, with dark fruity esters throughout.

Taste: Roasted malt, chocolate and coffee dosed with a splash of milk and a spoonful of sugar. Thin sliver of char presents itself. Dark fruitiness. Coffee on the back half into the thinnish, nigh watery finish.

Mouthfeel: Falls a bit shy of medium-bodied and it's noticeable. Medium carbonation.

Overall: By no means is it the richest, heartiest coffee-dosed stout around, but, at least it's got a pleasing coffee-toned flavor and aroma.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a quarter finger high tan head that died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of coffee beans are present in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste is dominated by coffee flavors and also has some hints of chocolate and roasted malts.
M: It feels a bit shy of medium-bodied and creamy on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation. It seems a little thin compared to other beers in the style.
O: This is a really nice beer if you like coffee. I found it to be very drinkable.

Brewed with coffee from Red Rooster Coffee Roasters in Floyd, VA.

Pours very dark brown to nearly black with a dark tan head that becomes chunky as it it recedes, leaving some thick, sticky lacing.

The aroma shouts COFFEE! Backed up by a bit of sweet malt. Really GOOD coffee!

Predominately coffee in the taste as well. Surprise, Surprise. A little tart citrus and the bitterness of roasted coffee and malt round it out.

Rather full bodied. Creamy and thick with some acidic coffee burn in the throat. A bit drying.

Sure, the coffee predominates, but I thought this was a really good beer. My first Starr Hill sampling. The coffee impressed me as well. I'll have to make the 18 mile drive to Red Roosters to check them out.
