Quality, easy drinking cream stout that had me wanting more. The beer is not bursting with powerful flavors but the subtle array of coffee with the creamy mouthfeel make this beer a winner. I ran through a bottle with ease on a cold night and was satisfied. The beer poured a small head, had a nice aroma and was worth drinking. This small brewery has a hidden gem in the massive pile of craft beer.

Bottom Line: Good cream stout. Dearslayer handed off a winner here.

22 ounce bottle - Barrel & Barley Craft Beer Market

Hand-written package date of 2-24-14.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown body with a smallish, brief, light tan head.

Smell: A rush of fresh-roasted coffee beans atop roasty, lightly chocolaty malts, a hint of a burnt element, with dark fruity esters throughout.

Taste: Roasted malt, chocolate and coffee dosed with a splash of milk and a spoonful of sugar. Thin sliver of char presents itself. Dark fruitiness. Coffee on the back half into the thinnish, nigh watery finish.

Mouthfeel: Falls a bit shy of medium-bodied and it's noticeable. Medium carbonation.

Overall: By no means is it the richest, heartiest coffee-dosed stout around, but, at least it's got a pleasing coffee-toned flavor and aroma.

First let me start by saying if you don't like coffee stouts, you will not like this beer. It poured black as midnight with a nice creamy beige (I'm old Gregg!!!) head that stuck around for most of the glass. The smell? Bam! Huge and delicious coffee smell with some chocolate and sweetness, it smelled like a coffee lovers dream. More of that on the taste, which I loved. However, I will admit this is the most heavily coffee flavored beer I've ever tried, and I could see that being overpowering for some. But I couldn't get enough. Still coming through were the nicely balanced lactose sweetness, chocolate, and a nice dark malt burnt flavor on the finish. The mouthfeel was rich and creamy. Bottom line? If you like milk/cream stouts and coffee beers, DO NOT miss this one.
