I love this place! Never was a beer person until my co-workers brought me here and had me sample some of the fine beers available. I always hated beer and am not your so-called beer expert. That was until I found a place that had real beer. They let you sample what is available, and now I've found there truly is a beer for every taste. I know I am preaching to the choir, but needed to review this place because I they deserve credit for turning a non-beer drinker into someone that now knows the difference between macro crap and real beer. They draw a loyal following and many others that would not normally go to a beer bar, since they are in a hotel. I love seeing the expressions on new comers that would not expect 10 taps of beer loving goodness. Also, they get women at the bar! Not many beer bars can claim that.

How can you rate a place anything less than a 5 when I had on tap there last night Firestone Walker Sucaba 2013, Kane Morning Bell, and Firestone Walker Parabola. And that was only three of their twenty taps. There was something for everyone in our group from an excellent IPA (Cigar City Jai Alai) to a solid German lager (Hofbräu Original) to outstanding local brews (Magnify Headaches, Little Dog Rauch Hund). In short, the bar manager really knows craft beer and works hard on getting things not seen at most places. The bar is modern and nicely appointed with what looked like a dozen TVs. Service was friendly, efficient and professional. It's in a nice hotel so it has a somewhat upscale look but nonetheless gives off a warm, friendly feel. There are beer deals daily and bands on weekends. This is a great place in every possible way.

The Tap Room at the Somerset Hills Hotel never dissappoints. There are 20 always-rotating craft beer taps, including 1 nitro tap, which means there is ALWAYS something new and exciting I want to drink. Kevin, the beer manager, works hard to get the vest selection possible from ipa's to stouts to lagers, there is a beer for every taste on draft. The Tap Room also hosts special brewery tap takeovers with rare stufg you won't find anywhere else. The bartenders and wait staff are always friendly and knowledgable about the beers they serve. The bar has been remodelled with several tv's to catch whatever sporting event is on. Friday's and Saturday's there is New Jersey's best live music by some really awesome bands! There are not many craft beer bars that can match the Tap Room. Cheers!

Stayed here over the weekend. The bar area in all of the pictures was currently under construction. Temporary? bar area only had six beers on-tap, nothing to write home about either. The bottle list was pretty solid but the prices were really high to moderately high. Service was ok I guess, our server at breakfast was terrible. I had to tell her four times I wanted water. Food was ok but again nothing amazing. I would give it another shot once the construction is over but I definitely wasn't impressed.

What happened to this great place?? Looked like it was goin out of business, no one there, restaurant closed off, making for a small room with the unstocked, uncared for bar. Bartender was clueless, credit card machine did not work, only thing is they still had some decent craft beers, but not up to old standards. Hope they intend on upgrading fast, super disappointed here!!!

This is one of the few hotel bars that you may find across the country that has more than one or a few great beers on draft. The bar / restaurant has a dark wood, old school but slightly upscale bar room feel to it. The bar is off to the one end and is U shaped, with room for about 12 or so. A few TVs are around the bar.

But we stopped here for the beer. There is a rotating beer menu that lists the latest offerings. Since it is the winter season, there are an abundance of winter beers on draft. Fegley's Rude Elf, Ithaca Cold Front, SN Celebration, St. Bernardus Christmas Ale, Delirium Noel, Sly Fox Christmas Ale, and Scaldis Noel created a difficult dilemma on what to drink. Hofbrau Munich Original was also on. There were a handdulf of bottle specials for $4.50, which included Mad Elf. The beers we had were fresh and served in proper glassware.

Service was prompt. Didn't have any food. This is defintely a worthy beer stop if you are in the Warren area.

This is by far one of my favorite beer bars in central NJ! They have 11 taps of ALL craft beer (never put any macro on tap), and it's constantly rotating other than the 1 tap of Hofbrau Munich Original. They get many difficult to come by beers on tap as well as having a very good "secret stash" of bottles. They host many tap take-over and other special events that are always excellent! During the week it's a very relaxed environment, and mostly full of craft drinkers. It can get a bit rowdy on weekends since it's at a hotel that hosts many weddings. The bands that play there range from awful to pretty good, but due to the size of the place it can tend to be too loud on Friday/Saturday nights, but there is a covered patio just outside if you want to escape the noise. The bartenders are excellent, but some of the servers, when sitting at a table getting food as well, have given me a bit of trouble. Overall though I highly recommend this place!

I've been meaning to hit this place for some time. Glad I finally did.

Beer selection was actually great in terms of craft beers. I reviewed the beers separately.

Bartender could have been a bit more knowledgeable for my taste, but the place overall was great would definitely come back.

Foodwise, very good...had a house salad, and the fish and chips...was listed as an appetizer, but was a good size portion, served with sweet potato fries.

I've been going to the tap room for years, meetin up with some of the other beer aficionados every Tuesday. Eva, Rachael and Carli are great servers and I love the wings there. They have happy hour with a dollar off drafts and some food to munch every day. There are always have great draft selections and my favorites, Rochefort and St Bernardus in bottles. When I went last night, they had St Bernardus on tap, so I was in my glory! The place put on an awesome Belgian event last year. I couldn't believe what great bottles they were serving for such a small price to enter. Looking forward to the next event, 10/20/11 - West Coast Beer and Food.

A beer lover nirvana! Kevin is outstanding when it comes to bringing in the best craft beer that's available to NJ. Being a BA himself, Kevin's always on top of what is available and desired by the craft loving masses and does his best to procure them for our enjoyment.

He holds tapping events for special releases (KBS, Parabola most recently), in addition to themed Food and Beer dinners where you can eat and drink all you please for one flat price. There is also a "Secret Bottle Stash", which includes some very nice bottle offerings that are sometimes hard to find, in addition to the impressive regular list of available bottles. The tap list always consists of quality craft beers with a variety of styles to suit all tastes.

The food is always amazing, with a great variety of both pub-type appetizers and creative entrees, some of which use craft beer in their recipes. My personal favorites are the Blue Point Wings, the Blithering Idiot Ribeye and the Kobe burger.

The bartenders (Carli, Rachel & Nelson) are very knowledgeable about the beer they are serving. The proper glassware and pour is always used and they are more than happy and capable of pointing you in the right direction if you aren't sure what you want.

The atmosphere is wonderful. There's a variety of all types of people that frequent the bar and there is almost always a very laid back vibe. The only slight drawback is that it is in a hotel that does hold wedding's from time to time. When the weddings are over, the revelers sometimes make their way into the bar. But that usually only takes place later in the evening during weekends and what bar isn't a little louder and crowded during a weekend night?

I couldn't agree more with the previous reviewer! I feel like it could've been written by one of my fellow beer compatriots, or maybe it's the famous beer writer who I hear frequents the place. I go to the tap room often because of the regulars, the servers, the manager Kevin (the beer linguist) and of course, the BEER! If you haven't been there yet, stop by and pull up a stool. Anyone that is disappointed probably has very high opinions on what exactly a beer bar is supposed to look like. For me, it's all about the BEER, and that's what The Tap Room has in spades.

Great Place!!! Don't let some of the others fool you with their so-so reviews. This place consistently changes what's on tap and always has exceptional beer there. My last visit, just to name a few, Great Divide Rumble IPA, Mikkeller Single Hop Willamette IPA, Brother David's Triple, St. Bernardus Abt 12 and Oskar Blues Ten Fidy.

Kevin is always putting on great and rare sixtels. Every year he gets KBS, so look for that coming soon. Kevin also has great beer events once a season. $40 for all you can drink and eat! Great food, giveaways, a band and most importantly, awesome bottles and drafts! What other place does that? All others that I've been to charge for every beer. Plus it's in a hotel, so you always have an option if you imbibe too much.

The Tap Room is attended by many local and non local beer lovers regularly, including a famous brewer ;) Quips about the decor? Please, are you here for the beer or are you an interior designer? I've been to many others in NJ, but always come back to the Tap Room!

The variety and quality of beer here is incredible. The taps are constantly rotated; one great beer follows another almost daily. The lines are always clean and the beer is fresh.
The friendly bar manager really knows his stuff and is glad to answer any questions or make a recommendation. Everything from the servers to the warm decor is perfect. I've made it a destination stop whenever I go out for great craft beer.
Here are four beers they just had on tap so you can get an idea of the quality the place has: Scaldis Cognac Ale, St. Bernardus ABT 12, Firestone-Walker Double Jack, and Saison Dupont.
They always serve the beer in the proper glass and at the right temperature which you don't see too often anywhere.
It may be hard to believe that a hotel bar is a craft beer mecca but this one is. In addition to hotel guests it draws a large amount of locals and people who travel for good beer.

I'd seen that this place had some awsome offerings but didnt make the excuse to trek out there until I saw Parabola on draft.

Hotel Lounge, wedding parties coming and going, hotel guests. Not really your typical beer bar scene but good offerings. FW Parabola, Mikkeler Single Hop, Founders Cerise, Founders Centennial IPA, Anderson Valley DIPA.

Wallpaper makes you feel like you're on a TRIP, lol. The type of place I'd come if they have awsome stuff, but not just stopping in to hang out.

Good place, not anything to rave about. Knowing me I'll be back when they more rarities on tap.

Stopped here for the first time today with a buddy who lives about 30 minutes away. The front half of the bar feels like a hotel lounge area. The Scottish Tartan patterned wallpaper is hideous. The bar itself is alright...about 11 taps of good quality choices and about 40 bottles on the menu I looked at. The bartender seemed nice but not necessarily knowledgeable about beer. The mixture of beer drinkers and hotel guests created a weird atmosphere in my opinion. While the beer was decent, I'm really surprised by the high scores this place has received here on BA.

Attended a wedding and was amazing surprised to see this great little bar in the middle of the hotel. Great feel and overall atmosphere. Great selection, kinda pricey, but what can you do. Some pretty rare choices as well, not your typical Blue Moon, Bass, domestic selection. Made my evening much improved from what I originally expected. It was a Saturday and they had a local band playing pretty awesome music followed by house tunes which were all quite modern and yet not "house" or dance music.

Was visiting AT&T HQ in Bedminster and was lucky enough to find the Tap room. The Somersett Hills hotel that houses the tap room is a dumb but wow- the tap room was a vision of outstanding beer love. I focused on the tap selection which included:
Omegang
Flying Fish
Founders
Dogfish
All these taps were well balanced, glass were appropriate and service was excellent. The only bummer was that last call, in which the lights were turned off. The food was very not so good but that I would not to eat anyway

This place is a gem!

Update to my earlier review - Moved away from the area for a while but have recently returned and decided to see if anything has changed at Tap Room. The place has been renovated with a new bar and at least 10 big screen TVs. It has a nice upscale yet warm feel. But no matter how nice a place looks it's still about the beer and Tap Room continues to excel in that area. The lineup is beyond good. For example I doubt if you'' find a 2013 Firestone Walker Sucaba pouring along with a Parabola and a Kane Morning Bell anywhere in the state. And that's only three of beers on the 20 taps when I visited a couple of days ago. The manager Kevin is still there and that explains why this place is still great. It's a destination stop for any craft beer lover.

Prior Review: This is easily the overall best beer bar in NJ. No wonder they're rated #1 by beernexus.com. Great variety of always fresh, hard to find beers on tap that are served in the proper glass. Excellent bottle list too. Somehow they seem to get beers that are usually only available in the best bars in NYC. Kevin the manager is a beer expert and is always available to make a recommendation or to explain a brew. He has done the impossible - made a hotel bar a destination stop for beer lovers. The bartenders know beer; the atmosphere is warm and friendly. Be sure to check out the daily beer specials, some are great bargains.

I went the Tap Room on a recommendation from a fellow beer guy. Had to thank him the next day. A great beer bar, and full service bar from your unenlightened friends.

So I started the way I always do and asked whats on tap. Answer was about 12 well varied beers. 2 lager/pils, 3 IPA's, 3 Saisons (too many for me, but they had Sly Fox which is my favorite), and 3 varied other. After handing me the tap list she said they had 2 changes, and they had just tapped a St Bernardaus Christmas Ale.

So I was set for the night, but had other options. The people I was with had everything from a Micheloeb Ultra (I know why not have a glass of water), Flying Fish Octoberfest, to the an IPA.

The place itself is very comfortable not too loud, with big plush chairs, couches, as well as traditional bar and table seating. Just my kind of place.

On the down side: Food was marginal. Not bad, just not particularly good.

Beer and Food prices overall were a little pricey compared to the area. They are located in a hotel which impact the pricing some, and the beer servings were full 16 oz glasses.

For example, they had St. Bernardus 12 on tap as well as Ramstein winter wheat . Kevin is a fellow Beer Advocate and takes the time to talk beer with you. He also keeps the tap menu current on here. Worth stopping by. They have specials and happy hour prices and today, I scored some free fried raviolis. So, if your willing to drink the specials, or pay al little extra, this is the place to go to

The bar is located in the Somerset Hills Hotel, so the crowd here usually varies and it can be dead here some nights and very crowed others, you never really know, they have a Rotating Brooklyn, IPA, Ommegang, Stout/Porter, German, and Seasonal line. Along with many local (NJ, NY, PA) brews. they never disappoint, Also they have an impressive bottle selection including Orval, Piraat, Chimey, etc. The food is excellent here, little on the pricey side, but reasonable overall. Late night here after the wedding Hurley, a few months back. It was hard to get a bearing on what what was what what, the place consumed with at least 2 if not 3 wedding parties (bride fight, bride fight!!). Add my alternating Victory Hop Devil & Prima Pils and Brooklyn Lager & Weisse juggling at the wedding all night (man, thems were going down like water, hops, malt and yeast), and I was in a place to jot a lot, not. Checked in again some time later on the way back from Bethlehem. No wedding parties, no loud DJ, and no scrappin' wives and girlfriends; should make for some quiet time...

"It's in a hotel, who would drink there?!?", in exasperated Randy, he asks. Well, me I suppose, if I were along the 78 corridor and thirsted. Past the front desk and around the bend down the hallway some. "U" shaped wood bar with a brass foot rail seats upwards of a dozen and a half. The center bar island holds tiered booze & dangling glassware above. Both ends of the bar meet up on the far wall, a long barback unit there holding tiered booze below a large mirror inlayed behind side shelving with select glassware, and cupboards with more glassware & booze to both sides. Pub signage, TV's in the far corners & a flat screen inside. English pubby wood paneled walls, tile floorings and faux pressed tin ceiling. Rear window doors to a balcony overlooking something I can't see (it's too dark, but there's something out there all right, I just know there is). Sunken spots and wall mounted lampage. Bar opens to a connecting room, carpeted and Randy plaid wallpapered, potted baby trees, couches and armchairs, and a chandelier on center.

11 taps in all, spread across the center bar island; 5 taps on an end roundie tower, and then 2 towers of 3 each on opposite sides otherwise. About ¾ of them local & regional (Cricket Hill Lager, Flying Fish Farmhouse, Brooklyn Grand Cru, Ommegang Rare Vos, Lancaster Hop Hog IPA, Victory Sunrise Weissbier & Storm King Stout, DogFishHead 90 Minute IPA), the others a smattering of imports (Corsendonk Pale Ale, Spaten Lager, Smithwicks). Seems they always have a rotating Brooklyn Brewmasters series on, as I'm pretty sure it was the Helles when we were there the first time around. Ordered a Rare Vos 'cause I like it, you freak (Hennepin's going on when the Rare Vos kicks). As I was only there for one beer, in and out, I seconded the motion with a Victory Sunrise Weissbier. Both beers were fresh, they move them pretty well and only order in sixtels.

And a bottled list of about 4 dozen selections. Nearly a dozen Belgians (lovely Orval, Chimay, Rochefort, Piraat, Duvel, Gulden Draak, St. Bernardus 12), and a dozen plus American micros (Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot, Brooklyn Lager, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, North Coast Old Rasputin, Ramstein Blonde, Rogue Dead Guy Ale, and 3 each from Stone & Ommegang), a few Germans, a few English, and the rest a mix of blah imports and obligatory macros (it is a hotel bar, after all).

Spoke with beverage manager Kevin at length, he seems to know his game, checks the sites, does events, etc. And bartender Carly is up to snuff as well, has some good likes, both nice folks, talked the talk of beer. This place was a mess the night of the wedding, probably any Friday or Saturday night really, and when they fill the hotel for an event, but it was much better this holiday weekend Sunday night (although the music was a bit much). Not too goddamn shabby for a hotel bar.

The Tap Room has done something that I have never seen before. They have turned a "Hotel Bar" into a "Neighborhood Pub". And they have done a great job. It wasn't an overnight success either. The bar manager Kevin Torpey has been there for 11 years and has slowly transitioned the beer selecton, food selection and decor into a world class pub.
The taps are constantly changing but in a systematic way. They have the rotating Brooklyn Brewmasters Reserve series, The Ommegang one-off and seasonal lines as well as a rotating IPA line, regional lines and classic imports from Belgium, Germany and England. On a given day you can walk into the tap room and find Troegs Nugget Nectar, DFH World Wide Stout or Stone's Oak Aged Arrogant Bastard on tap.
The chef cooks with the beers they have on tap and does an incredible job.
Having good beers on tap and making good food with beer is not the only great thing about the Tap Room. They also hold tastings and beer dinners several times a year. They usually have creative themes like the East vs West; Brooklyn vs Stone tasting I attended several months ago. As well as Belgian themed beer dinners and local events like; Local Beers, Local Bands, where several NJ craft beers were on tap and some local NJ bands played all night.
This is all great stuff. But the best thing about the Tap Room is the staff. I've worked in the beer business in different capacities, for a long time and I honestly think Kevin is the nicest guy I have ever met in the business. He is knowledgeable, without an ounce of pretention. Friendly, funny and just down right kind. The kind of guy you would enjoy sitting down and having a beer with even if you didn't know him.
The three female bartenders(Rachel, Karly and Kelly) are the best in the business. Knowlegeable, cute, friendly, fast, efficient and even a little bit flirty. But be careful, they are all black belts in Brazilian Jui-Jitsu.
The Tap Room is not just a must-visit NJ bar. It is fast becoming a must-visit Northeast beer experience. If you haven't been there yet, turn off your computer and go there now. I'm sure you could use some fresh air anyway. You've probably been slumped over this thing for days chatting on Star Trek message boards and looking for naked pictures of Angelina Jolie. Get out and live a little man!
Cheers to everyone there and keep up the great work! - Billy B.

So I finally got a chance to go by and visit this place. Very nice. The only reason I would not rate it as a 5 on atmosphere is because it is still in a hotel. Other then that, the place is fantastic. They have a fantastic beer list including Sam Smith Oatmeal, Aventinus, Sierra Nevada, St. Bernadus 12, Stone ipa, Brooklyn Brew Masters reserve, Ayinger, Chimay, Dog Fish 90, Duvel, Fullers, Ommegang, Orval, Piraat, Rochefort 8 & 10, Rouge.

For what they have for space - the beer selection is fantastic. If they only had more room and did not have to carry some basics due to the fact that they are still in a hotel, this place could be even better.

I have not gone by when they have music but I have heard good things. The food also looked great but I did not get a chance to try it.

I would definitely recommend stopping in here.
