Poured from 12oz bottle into glass. Bottle neck has a stamp of 'BO 09.18.2017'.
Clear, orange/bronze colored body. Thin fizzy head upon pouring quickly disappears. No lacing.
Aroma is raspberry and faint malts.
Taste is a first impression of sweet/tart raspberry, which is quickly followed by the sharp twang of the wheat malt.
Thin mouth feel. Rather low carbonation.
The label does not identify this as a wheat ale but the taste gives it away. There are two similar beer listings from this brewery - one for a Sea Dog Raspberry Ale and one for a Sea Dog Raspberry Wheat Ale. The brewer's website does not offer many beer listings but does include the Sea Dog Raspberry Wheat Ale.
The beer is okay and would be best for hot weather relief but the presentation overall is rather blah and without distinction. The best aspects are that the beer is refreshing and that the profile is clean and quick.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 5/5/2016. Pours fairly clear golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of lightly tart raspberry, wheat, cracker, biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of raspberry, bready malt, and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of lightly tart raspberry, wheat, cracker, biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light herbal/grassy bitterness and fruit tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of raspberry, wheat, cracker, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Nice robustness and balance of raspberry, bready malt, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitter/tartness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from carbonation and bitter/tartness as well. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, crisp, and fairly creamy/grainy balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is a very good fruited wheat ale. All around good robustness and balance of raspberry, bready malt, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, and clean to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Poured 12oz bottle into snifter glass. 4.5% abv

Appearance- Pours a light copper color with high white head with good retention. Crystal clear.

Smell- Wheat, freshly picked raspberries.

Taste- Crisp and grainy wheat malt with a pronounced fresh presence of raspberries. The raspberry taste blends with the wheat malt base, not cutting through it. Has a sharp and quick clean finish.

Mouthfeel- Thin in body with active carbonation.

Overall- Not too complex, a big blast of wheat along with a good showing of raspberries. The blend together however is quite nice, making for a very refreshing flavorful beer. The fruit flavor tastes quite natural, and is not overpowering, yet not weak as in some fruit beers. This is a great Summer beer.

Head blows up quickly, but quickly recedes from its 3/4" zenith. Can't retain, can't provide lace. Aroma does indicate some wheat and raspberry candy.

Taste, whoa, way too sweet, lacking a body to carry such under attenuation. So much candy. Lacking hops or bitterness to counterbalance the sugary candy nonsense.

If you like Lindemens sugar added "lambics" maybe this beer is for you.

Sea Dog's raspberry ale is a little better than their blueberry ale in trying to taste like a fruity beer that didn't lose its way. It's sweet, a little tart, and overall refreshing, but it still lacks in a a memorable finish or in tasting like beer. Its sweetness is a little too fruity to really want to keep drinking.

Best by 2/14/16.

Pours a clear honey orange with a foamy beige head that fades to nothing. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is of grain, raspberry candy, and raspberry soda aromas. Taste is much the same with raspberry candy, raspberry soda, and sugar flavors on the finish. There is a very mild amount of earth bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a below average beer that is extremely sugary and has artificial raspberry qualities in both the smell and taste.

Serving type: bottle.
