English India Pale Ale (IPA) |  6.20% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Fashioned after the famous ales from Burton-On-Trent which took on such bold character after surviving the long, rolling voyage from London to Calcutta in the days of the Empire. This is an amber colored masterpiece in the world of beer styles.

Appearance: Dark copper color and creamy head that stays around for a while.
Smell: Fresh hop grapefruitiness. Very pleasing.
Taste: Nice bitterness and hoppiness, but lighter than other IPAs. A surprisingly tap-watery, dry finish.
Mouthfeel: Somewhat watery leaving something to be desired.
Drinkability: A decent session beer, but it's lacking compared to other English IPAs.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a dark bronze color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of light hops, some floral notes. Taste is lightly hopped, a strong malt backbone, some mild citrus. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a bit light on hops for the style, but highly drinkable and enjoyable.

A: very clear; copper colored; with a conservative pour, got a 2 finger loose head that dissipated unevenly to a thin white film; minimal lacing;

S: caramel malt; resin hop bitterness; orange rind;

T: pear; pine resin at mid-palate; dry, moderately bitter finish with no real flavor;

M; medium bodied; a little over carbonated;

O: reminded me of some of my early home brews; very drinkable, but carbonation wasn't quite right and taste needed something;

Amber copper color with a thick head with medium retention and leaving some laces.
Nice citrusy aroma with notes of pine, grapefruit, caramel and toasted malts.
Bitter flavor well balanced with slightly toasted malts, spices, caramels, pine, resin, some English earthy and perfumy hops but predominantly grapefruit citrus, and tea leaves. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Light body with appropriate carbonation. Alcohol of 6.2% abv is very well hidden.
Although it doesn’t necessarily have a character of its own, it is a well-executed IPA, kind of mixing English and American styles. I am under the impression they boosted its hops compared to older versions.

KBC IPA has a thin, cream-colored head, a clear, bubbly, orange-copper appearance, and a slight lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet, fruity, toffee candy. Taste is of caramel candy, citrus pith, English hop bitterness, and sugar, with a background of bread crust. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and KBC IPA finishes crisp and semi-wet. It is certainly an unusual IPA and most definitely NOT of the West Coast style. Overall, this oddity is interesting and enjoyable. Its mouthfeel and finish are lager like.
