Thanks to head brewer Dave for passing this growler off. I really appreciate the opportunity. Had first sampled a glass at the brewpub last weekend. Second crack at this sucker.
Pours a dark copper auburn color with orange highlights towards the bottom of the glass. Thin one finger off white colored head holds retention nicely for a couple of minutes. Head fades leaving a skim of fuzz on top and a white ring around the edges of the glass. Dotted lacing as it goes down. Caramel malt notes lend a sweetness to the aroma. Nutty aromas give the nose a nice body and thickness. Floral and fruit notes round out the aromas and give a nice kick to it. Leafy and really airy in the nose after a good swirl of the glass. Head resurfaces nicely here also.
Medium bodied malt flavors attack the taste buds as you take the first sip. Caramel malt base flavor with hints of biscuit, toasted grain, and nuts round out the edges. Noble hops lend to the bitterness and the dryness. Slightly creamy mouthfeel with only a tiny tingle of the carbonation. Smooth and refreshing with a surprisingly crisp and dry finish that leaves a semi sweet nutty aftertaste. A solid example of the style and with a low abv plays the role of a session ale pretty damn well. A pleasure to drink--another winner from Gardner.
