When we first visited Columbia we would get our wine at Joe's, great selection of wine at the time, and decent selection of beer. I've been there a handful of times recently looking for special releases but the beer situation has dwindled dramatically and there seems to be a lot of bare shelves. Most of the beer that is available is you run of the mill selections for New Belgium, Great Divide, Schlafly, Boulevard. No bigger/rarer bottles or anything terribly exciting. The Cherry Hill area of Columbia (although a really nice location) has had some trouble over the years in keeping it's local businesses to stick around. The last time I was in I wondered whether or not Joe's was still going to be there when I showed up. The owner is a nice guy and very friendly, but I'm not sure I would make a trip out of my way to get back there for their lack of beer selection. Wine maybe, but not for beer.

EDIT: Summer of 2010 - This place continues to decline. There are empty shelves everywhere not just the beer section.

This is a pretty good beer store, but not the first place I stop for beer. The quality has always been good and so has the service. The selection is not bad, but it could have a lot more. Since the store is in an upscale shopping area in an upscale neighborhood, I've always had greater expectations for it. They carry Bell's, Schlafly, NB and some other good craft beers but they simply don't have enough "big" beers or variety. They have some good imports, too, but still not as many as they could considering the likely clientele.
