Poured from a nice looking 500ml brown bottle.

Aroma from this bottle was mostly alcohol smell with some malt and hops coming through. There was also an odd soapy smell coming through near the end. Pours a light straw color. Got an impressive 3 finger head which faded away very quickly. A lot of nice lacing as well.

Taste at first was not so good. The taste that stood out the most at first was of alcohol. There is some malt and grain flavor mixed in and some other flavors too (corny), and a decent hop bite on the finish. The alcohol taste faded near the end of the bottle and yielded a rather bland mix of malt and grain with some slight hoppiness. There was no freshness dates, so I don't know if the strong aroma and taste of alcohol was a freshness issue. I will need to try a few more bottles from a different place to see. Mouthfeel was ok, not a lot of carbonation.

Overall, this was an ok brew, it improved near the end. Could have been freshness issues, but with no freshness date, it's hard to tell.

Sampled this evening on 5/3/14. Comes in a .5 liter bottle (16.9 ounce) for $2.99. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in a english pint glass.

Pours a hazy golden yellow in color with a thin white head. Some spotty lacing was seen. The aroma is of some hoppy grains with a hint of some spice. The taste is of grains and malts and is heavier than a US lager. Just a real slight bitter aftertaste was noted but didn't linger. Good carbonation. Not nearly as good as their "Porteris" (Porter) but decent.

Appearance pours a hazy yellow orange with thick fluffy head that sticks around abit leaving spotty lace. Smell has that mellow Euro pale aroma of malt and hop having a buttery note. Taste is again the Euro pale with that buttery note. Mouthfeel is light with good viscosity and carbonation. One of the better Euro pale I've tried thus far.

Poured from a brown 16.9 oz. bottle. Has a pale yellow color with a 1 inch head. Smell is mild, some grains and malts. Taste is good, malts up front, considerable sweetness, some grains are present. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a pretty good beer.

I really enjoyed this one. Pours to a clear yellow with a minimal head, it really takes some vigor to get it to stick around. Has a spicy-malty aroma. Smooth malty and grainy taste, rather heavy bodied. There is a barley sweetness that reminds me of a Lowenbrau.

Swirled in the bottle, I got some weird aromas off this. Old hefe wheat, and olives. Briny, salty, ugh. Thankfully the actual beer wasn't *too* bad.

Nice sticky lacing, unlike recent Polish lagers i've had. Decent retention, bright amber gold color. Impressed by the actual lacing, it looks like a craft amber ale almost.

Papery cardboard smell and taste, some hop bitterness and metallic notes. Malt aftertaste, some astringency. Vaguely sweet, sort of limp and flaccid. Ultimately forgettable, despite some ok head retention. Head is overrated.

This is decent, but more American "adjunct-lager"-tasting than I expected. It's more bland than I expected and more corn-tasting and less herbal-hop-tasting for a Euro lager.

Gold, it has a huge white head shrinking steadily to a thin lasting head and leaving a little weak lace.

The aroma is mostly corn tortillas with some grain, bread, grass, and pine. It's full and pleasant, but definitely heavy on the corn and weak in hops.

The taste is similar, being grain, especially corn tortillas, lightly winey-alcoholic with very light herbal bitterness, light zestiness, a hint of spiciness, hint of grass, and a grain-corn finish.

The corn quality gets a little tiresome by the end. It's like a a higher quality, cleaner, more well-crafted Red Dog, because of the dominant corn character. I was hoping for something more along the lines of Svyturys, from neighbouring Lithuania, but this lacks the herbal hop quality.

Aldari Luksus pours a clear yellow gold body beneath a short head of bright white foam. The head retention is limited, and it drops readily to reveal an empty central surface surrounded by a big-bubbled collar. It does, however, somehow find a way to leave tiny specks and flickers of lace behind on the walls of the glass.

In the nose it's fairly bright and welcoming with notes of sweetish and grainy malt and lots of grassy and herbal hops.

The flavor is as the nose suggests, but with a hint of lemony citrus as well. It's fairly well hopped for bitterness, hovering somewhere in the 25 to 35 IBU range. It finishes fairly dry with lingering notes of grainy, almost lightly toasty malt and whips of sharply grassy hops amidst an overall herbal backbone.

In conclusion, apart from the lack of head retention and a little bit of brashness (or should I say a need for refinement?), it's an interesting and enjoyable lager. It's a little more heavy handed in both malt and hops than a Bohemian Pilsener, and not nearly as bitter or balanced as a German pils, but it has its charms.

A big bottle, just like the one in the picture. Picked up at a local Eastern European market. Paired it for dinner with kielbasa, sauerkraut, and borscht.

Clear pale yellow, as expected. Big head. Lots of lacing left down the sides of my pilsner glass.

Hops, a teensy tiny bit of malt, and something weird and astringent that I can't identify on the nose.

Taste is straight up the middle for the style. Not as hoppy and bitter as Heineken, but not as crisp, either.

Mouthfeel is pretty thin. Carbonation is decent. Drinkability is good due to the low impact on the stomach and palate. You could drink this stuff in buckets.

The aroma has grassy hops, plus sweet malts. The appearance is pale gold. The flavor is like the aroma but is balanced between the hops and malts. The palate is really thin and the finish slightly tinny and a little bit dry. Not good but not awful either. I like the fact that it actually has detectable hops.

Poured a medium straw hue with a two finger pillowy white head. There was good retention and sticky lacing.

The smell featured a good grainy malt with a touch of noble hops.

The taste consisted a light husky grain and a light hop spice. Good doughy finish.

The mouthfeel was toward the fuller side and slightly creamy.

Overall a pretty good lager. Much more balanced and flavorful than expected.

Aldaris would like us to know that Luksus is the 'First Latvian Super Premium Lager'. I worry whenever I see the word 'premium' on a beer label, so I'm really concerned about *super* premium. The embossed brown glass bottle certainly looks the part, as does the attractive, gold medal-bedecked, gold foil-wrapped neck. The question is whether or not the beer measures up.

More bright yellow than amber and clearly unfiltered. Up above is a cotton white cap that is much nicer than the dingy white heads on most Euro lagers. It has a 'bubbles piled atop bubbles' look and is beginning to leave a considerable amount of delicate, curlicued lace.

The nose is better than decent. It's fresh and bright and grain-like and even a little noble hoppy. Nothing out of the ordinary, it just does what it does better than the competition. Hey, maybe there's something to this 'super premium' stuff after all.

The scores continue a slow slide into the realm of average. I'm less impressed with Luksus on the palate. It's simpler and less vibrant than expected; not that I expected a world-beater of an EPL. Although it favors bitter over sweet (a good thing), there isn't much hop flavor. A little slap and tickle from a generous amount of Saaz would have done wonders.

As is often the case, a less than optimal amount of carbonation keeps the mouthfeel from shining. In this case, it's too few bubbles rather than too many. Since I expected it to be light, or light-medium at best, I could hardly be disappointed on that front. Besides, it fits the style.

Compared to most beer from this corner of the world, I don't mind the three offerings that I've had from Aldaris. I've given them all (Porteris, Zelta, now this beer) average flavor scores and average or above average drinkability scores. It may not be Super Premium, but Luksus isn't a bad little Euro pale lager, all things considered.

Nice package - a super bottle for a premium lager. This make the brew even more disappointing. When you empty your elegant bottle you feel deceived. Another boring European lager with practically no character.

Smell? Faint, malty-herbal. Appearance in the glass? Mediocre - head small and unstable, color easy forgettable. Start malty, body thin, general taste lacks complexity, finish sweet, aftertaste of some soda pop.

It's not a bad beer. But I don't dare to call it a good one.
