Not far from the SF baseball park on the south side of downtown. Also just a few blocks from where you get onto the Bay Bridge, which is why we ended up checking this place out several times before heading to Berkeley to rest after eventful days visiting the city by the bay.
Just a step or two down from street level, this classy, and quality small place packs a beer punch with a few smaller cooler units and shelving stretching and bending along a few walls and corners. About 6 quality taps, cheese plates, extensive and well picked quality selections, including plenty of local, regional and national heavy weights and favorites. Pleasant to visit for a pint or two or to pick up a some quality bottles. I wish all towns had a place like this enjoy and feel the respect of beer in full force.

A (mostly) beer only SoMa establishment with an strong tap list and comfortable environs.
If I'm staying in SF for more than a day, and staying in the usual Financial District spot, I try to make my way to City Beer Store. The three for four times I've been here it's been fairly busy. It's a polite crowd, though, a I've never had to wait too long for my next pour. There's always something to choose. A dozen to fifteen choices ranging from very small breweries you've never heard of (unless you live in the area) to stuff you've always wanted to try but haven't been able to find. The food is limited, but you're not here to eat. Parking is limited, but it is walkable if you're staying around the Convention Center. Prices are reasonable. I believe there are bottles and growlers for purchase, but I never have. A must if you're coming to the city.
