GLASS: Kostritzer Mug
TEMP: Cellared @ approx 50 degrees

This pours a light-to-medium shade of copper. Two-fingers of bone-white foam sit on top. Retention is good and lacing is in thin, sticky, strands.

This is a nicely inviting hoppy nose. Notes of grass, earth, soap and citrus are all here. There is a nice hint of caramel malts, lying below the surface.

Notes of grassiness and pine needles dominate the flavor. Yellow grapefruit, lemon and unripened oranges are here, also. A very light hint of maltiness brings a slight touch of balance, but this one is still quite hop forward.

A medium body with a medium-to-high level of carbonation. It is mostly smooth, with a tiny touch of sharpness. It does have a nice, mild, level of creaminess to it, which earns points in my book.

As long as you like the bitterness of hops, it's a keeper. Personally, I'm very glad to have had the chance to try it. I don't plan to search it out again, though.

The Hopilicious is a solid IPA. The beer poured a clear orange with white head that left a nice lace all the way down the glass. The scent carried fresh hops that leans towards pine and citrus. The taste follows the nose quite well. It does have a more bitter than balance. The mouthfeel is medium with smooth carbonation. Overall this is a great beer and could be sessioned.

Amongst the myriad of IPAs that I've come across, Hopalicious ranks as one of the finest. The IPA style in general has become so over-saturated of late that's it is always refreshing to find an IPA that stands above the crowd.

As the name suggests, Hopalicious is rich with complex hops. It is quite bitter in such a pleasant and drinkable way that the could only come from Ale Asylum's expert-treatment of their cascade hops. It's very floral and citrusy, which is balanced perfectly by its strong bitterness.

Among IPAs, it's very sweet at heart, although I wouldn't call it a sweet beer per se (sweet as in sugar and caramel). The sweetness in Hopalicious is used as more of a balancing mechanism.

This really is a pinnacle of American IPAs and I hope that Ale Asylum—with their spectacular new facilities—are able to expand their micro-brewed gem to a larger crowd.
