This is a yummy, very food-friendly IPA with a lovely marigold color. It is assertively hoppy but well-balanced, with subdued grapefruit and orange flavors that complement strong food flavors such as blue cheese and bacon. The mouthfeel is crisp but not thin, which again plays into this beer's food-friendliness -- the optimal texture for sipping between bites of food. It was particularly good after ten minutes or so, when it was not quite so cold and the malt flavor came forward. The carbonation is just enough to scrub the palate between bites without distracting the mouth with too much effervescence.
I had this on tap with a bacon cheeseburger (medium-rare, Maytag blue cheese) and will think of it often after leaving Madison this week.
