With a fury of hop flavor and a strong malt backbone, this West-Coast style amber is part ale, part sensory eruption, and All-American. Ambergeddon is brewed with passion and is best enjoyed that way.

appearance: The beer pours a low white head that recedes to a persistent thin layer on the surface, and is a hazy amber in color.

smell: Smells good...pulpy aromas of hop matter and sweet caramel malt. Plenty of tropical notes of grapefruit and pineapple rind, plus a light evergreen hint.

mouthfeel: The carbonation is between medium and light, and the body medium.

taste: Moderate to high hop flavors and a sweet caramel malt note upfront, with a considerable bitterness to balance out the finish. Many of the same fruity notes on the nose are found here, in addition to a nice dose of pine.

drinkability: quite easy

Living in the same city as the now-departed Ale Asylum does allow me to find some of the few remaining bottles and cans. Tonight is Ambergeddon, the beer, not something larger-scale. Opening the can, I find a much more citrusy scent than I was expecting... grapefruit, vanilla, and pastry... sort of like marmalade-slathered brioche. Coppery amber translucence sits below a cream-colored froth of two fingers or so. Once in the glass, the citrus elements are much less pronounced. When it hits the mouth, I taste ripe cantaloupe with a smoothness that gives way to a slight citrus astringency and noticeable carbonation. The more I drink, the less the cantaloupe and the more the sour, almost leaving me with a dry mouth. With food, this is certainly serviceable, though I know I'd stop at one and may not look for another of this flavor.

Very nice, think IPA but with toned down hops/citrus and a more up malty flavor. Taste is pretty balanced, plenty of hops if you are an IPA fan, but good caramel and toasted biscuit notes on the finish. Very drinkable.

This 120z. can of beer pours a very attractive hazy amber with a nice pillow of tan foam that lasted a couple of minutes. The carbonation is minimal.
The smell is of faint yeast, not strong at all.
The taste caught me by surprise, I like ambers and was hoping for an amber, but this is more like an IPA. There is a very faint caramel hidden under the strong pine and citrus, with a very bitter dry finish! This was not what I was hoping for!
The feel is OK, not watery, low carbonation, dry.
The beer looks very nice, but after work I was looking forward to a good amber, this was not it. Just another IPA.

Had on tap. Orangey amber in the body, thin white head. Aromas of toasted caramel malts, some citrusy hops, and rye bread greet the nose. Taste is really malty, some hops on the finish but pretty mild, get some honey and earthiness too. Feel is malty, medium bodied and decently carbonated. Solid

Normally, I am a porter/Stout drinker. I gave this one a try today. At 40 to 45 degrees, Using a pilsner glass, pours with a cloudy, amber color, accompanied with a thick white head, that dissipated to a thin covering in about 4 minutes. The Hops are right up front, but not overpowering. There is a bit of "Back of the throat" bitterness. Nice clean, drinkable ale.

Thanks to sblickem for sending this bottle! My first brew from Ale Asylum. Reviewed from (very, very) long-standing notes. Poured from the 12 oz. bottle into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass. Consumed 9/3/17.

A: Very hazy deep copper to brown, with a reasonable amount of visible carbonation. Forms a thin off-white head that fades fairly quickly.

S: Toasted biscuit malts and some caramel. A bit of boozy alcohol, and some stale resinous hops and oil. A fainter orange-y citrus rind. Not what I expected, and not exciting. I don't see a date on the bottle, but the hop profile smells potentially aged - but I trust the beer was fresh when sent, and I only got it a couple weeks ago.

T: Bready malts, with just a hint of toastiness. Resin and orange pith hops – oily and more bitter than fruity. Mild toffee or caramel sweetness in the malts, but it doesn’t taste as old as it smelled. More hop bitterness in the hang – more vegetal and resin.

M: Medium-bodied, average carbonation sensation. Low alcohol presence.

O: Well, I don’t know if this is old or not. I actually don’t think it tasted old – it just didn't at all have the hops I was looking for. For a label that says “West-Coast Style” red ale this fell way, way short. It’s more of an old-school, Triple C (or maybe even just Centennial) hoppy red. A serviceable beer at your local 3 BBL brewhouse, or a buddy’s homebrew, but nothing to distribute. Scores given are my scores to style, rather than the imaginative “West Coast” puffery on the label. That would be a complete fail.
