A - a hazy light brown pour with about half a finger of head
S - caramel, has a distinct smell of a fresh cut lawn.. kind of weird, i know, but it's that sweet smell of wet grass before it starts stinking (the beer doesn't stink, thankfully!)
T- taste of rye malt, a weird after taste lingers of what seems to be a raw broccoli taste. kind of a weird day for me, 2 beers and they both taste like different raw veggies. nothing wrong with this at all, it's making me crave fresh veggies now!
M - a very easy flowing beer. lightly carbonated, smooth yet tingly on the palate.
O - not a bad beer at all. seems a bit heavy on the abv for a red, but i can't complain about a complimentary buzz! could use a little more work on the head, maybe more profound taste characteristics.

12 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. There is a space for an enjoy by date, but it is left blank. A random find for me in the mixed six pack section at my local beer store. My first beer from Ale Asylum. Expectations are moderately good.
Poured into a clear balloon snifter.
A - Oh yeah, its pours a beautiful dark coppery orange / amber color, almost ruby at times with lots of dark sediment flecks and two big fluffy fingers of beige froth. Good lacing. Looks very nice.
S - Smell is comprised of earthy / caramel / pale malts, green apples, and some dried herbal / vegetal smelling hop presence. Slight soapiness. Smells pretty nice.
T - Reminds me more of what I'd imagine a nice pale ale would be more so than an amber, but it's all good. Caramel / amber malt, and earthy / piney / sticky green apple hop presence.
M - Feel is dry, bready, sticky, & bitter. Some piney / green apple hop presence lingering on the palate. Good balance. Medium bodied
Overall, a very nice, if somewhat standard, slightly above average offering from Ale Asylum. More hop forward than a lot of other amber ales I've had. Reminds me more of a stronger pale ale or an older more malt forward IPA. Either way, I'm not hard to please. I'd have it again.
