very cool how dry this is for a full bodied and quite strong stout. these usually coat the palate and finish sticky, but not this one, dry without having a substantial irish type yeast character, and malty and rich without being bitter or too thick, clever! i have liked all the beer ive had from these guys, and am surprised with beer this good that it took me so long to encounter their stuff. this is like a milk stout in that the oats give it the same body the lactose does, and it is toffee sweet in the middle, but doesnt carry that through. coffee is subtle in here despite the description, more earthy, almost rooty to me, sarsaparilla or something in there with all the chocolate malt and velvety oats. excellent beer overall, i need to get my hands on a lot more stuff from these guys, who have yet to introduce even a B level beer to my palate, all have been superior, and this one is too.

Pours very dark brown, approaching black in color, with a thick 2 finger head of dark khaki foam.

Tons of roasted malt character, chocolate, and slight coffee aroma, but you can definitely tell it's not true coffee.

Abundant oatmeal, chocolate, slightly nutty, and coffee-esque flavor.

Heavy-bodied, medium carbonation, soft, slightly chewy, a little slick and watery.

Overall, I definitely have to say while I enjoyed this beer, I think the use of actual coffee beans would definitely make me pick this up again, but not until then.

Pours very dark brown to black with a foamy, well-retained brown head. Lacing sticks.

The smell is of robust coffee, rich chocolate, hint of anise and dark fruit.

The taste is of robust coffee/espresso with a rich chocolate (cake with chocolate frosting). Sweetness balanced by earthy tones and anise. It's very complex, rich and delicious!

Full-bodied but not too thick or syrupy. Very silky texture. Alcohol is well-hidden.

As rich and complex as it is , it is very drinkable and smooth. A delightful stout, to say the least.

Excellent! Appearance is a thick velvety tan head that lasts forever; lots of lace and an opaque brown black color. Aroma at first is just dry dark roasted coffee and then the mall to comes on and I pick up more of vanilla and Cocoa and toffee. Flavor is like aroma; carbonic Tang is upfront but toned down there's a bit of sweetness but also tonedown; lovely beer. Body is perfect.

12oz bottle, date stamp appears to be smudged
A - deep dark brown with a foamy tan head
S - sweet dark chocolate, creamed coffee, roasted barley
T - huge dark chocolate notes, sweet malt, roasted barley, cream, oats, faint anise on the slightly peppery finish
M - fuller body, super creamy and smooth, ample carbonation
O - really good stout! Easy to drink, nice chocolate flavors. I'd drink this again.

Served in a Trooper shaker pint glass.

I expected more of an oil reference, but, hey, I guess we live in a post-Horizon world, eh? Anyway, this stuff pours a straight black-brown topped by a finger of sienna foam. The nose comprises cocoa powder, roasted malts, and a hint of coffee. The taste holds notes of mild treacle, thin coffee, and a twinge of salted chocolate. The body is a lithe medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel, one that borders on being a bit thin. Overall, this is an okay stout, but it opts for straight-up bitterness in a relatively too-thin body rather than a richness of flavor and mouthfeel. I might have another, but I likely wouldn't be excited about it.

A. Typical stout appearance - dark brown with a tan head of two fingers.

S. On the shy side - roasted malt, coffee and some prune notes.

T. Roasted malt and coffee followed by a nice hit of hops. Finishes long with a nicotine-like aftertaste.

M. Moderate, semi-creamy mouthfeel with matching level of carbonation.

O. This is a good, easy drinking everyday Stout. Glad AA released this into their everyday line of beers.
