12oz brown bottle with no freshness date.

The beer poured a dark brown color with a 2-finger tan head. The head retention only lasted about a minute and didn't leave much lacing, but it did leave a thin layer of cream on top that remained throughout the session.

Caramel, other malts, and chocolate smell.

This tastes pretty good. It's on the sweet side, which would be expected from a beer with 7 malts in it. Lots of caramel, nuttiness, roasted malts, and chocolate flavor. Not much in the hops department though.

Smooth and creamy but not too thick. Actually light to medium in body with low carbonation.

This is the first beer I've ever tried from this brewery and I'm already a fan. This was a really good nut brown ale.

12oz bottle, no clear bottling date, ordered at Green Owl Tavern in Madison, Wisconsin and poured into a glass 3/15/2014.

App- Clear dark brown body, one finger white head with fair retention, lots of lacing. Looks like a fairly average brown ale.

Smell- Caramel, nutty, a touch of earthiness. Simple, strong and to the point.

Flavour- Very sweet, a touch bit too sweet for what I prefer out of a brown ale. Caramel, toffee, Wermer's butterscotch and candied sugar. Nothing here that can cut the sweetness at all. It's fine and more than drinkable.

Mouthfeel- Thinner bodied but not quite watery. Good carbonation. Sweet finish that is neither resinous nor dry.

Overall- Decent, overly sweet brown ale that doesn't bring a lot else other than sweetness to the table.

12oz stubby bottle. Pours into my glass a ruddy brown with a small bubbly white head that quickly fades to nothing. A bit of fine particulate in the glass as well. Aromas begin with caramel and a light toasted graininess. A slight nuttiness is there along with some dark fruit and a very mellow hop aroma in the background.

First sip brings a slightly toasty, almost bready caramel maltiness that flows across with some nutty flavors as well. A mild fruitiness comes through in the middle, flows down clean and finishes with just a touch of hops. A smooth brew but it just ends up boring me a bit.

Mouthfeel is smooth and slightly creamy from the fast moving carbonation. It's somewhere between light and medium bodied making it easy to drink. Overall, it's an easy drinking brown that just seems to be a little lacking in the flavor department to me. Nothing really grabs me in and makes me want to come back to this one.

Had this on tap at the brewery.

It pours a dark brown color with a minimal head. The smell is malty with a nutty coffee tone. The taste is a mix of coffee and chocolate. Very malty and rich. It has a nice full mouthfeel. The carbonation is low so it goes down really smooth. I will be picking up a sixer of this next time out.

This beer pours a dark amber color, with a small tan head. The smell was weak, but had some maltyness. The taste was malty, no nut flavor as the name implies, and a bit light for a brown ale. There could have been more flavor, but easy to drink. Overall not a bad beer, but not a good beer either.

Small capped bottle poured into a pint.

Orange brown in color, it has a small light tan head that does not hold very well, leaving little lacing on its way down.
Aroma, just like the taste is pleasant but not complex; malts, mostly caramel, in a light to medium bodied brew. Decent, easy to drink, but nothing special here.

Served in a pint glass at the Argus.

Appearance: Welcoming orange-brown with ruby hues. Big off-white head. Nice lacing.

Aroma: Caramel malts dominate, chocolate, nuts, apple butter, biscuits, toast.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Great full-bodied caramel flavors but otherwise a bit of a let down. I want big dry-roasted nuttiness in a nut brown and this beer lacks that. Mouthfeel is slick and creamy but lends itself to much towards sweetness and isn’t dry enough. Some minor nut, toast, and chocolate flavors are present.

Drinkability: Ok, but not my cup of tea.

I didn't find this beer to be all that nutty...it was decent and lightly toffee-ish, but not particularly nutty nor was it overwhelmingly flavorful. Still, this was far from a bad beer, and I think I would rate it above average.

This beer pured a nice red color with a tan head. Aroma was a bit of light caramel but was not overly odoriferous. Flavor was a bit light and a bit of toffee and caramel. Body was light and there was not a tremendous amount of mouthfeel. Not bad, and recommended, but far from spectacular.
