This traditional Scotch ale is full-bodied with an earthy aroma. It has a smooth malt presence, with just the right touch of hops for a balanced, clean finish.

Hazy chestnut body. Seemingly unfiltered. Thin head of creamy white. The nose is malty with some almost-scorched brown sugar, generic fruitiness (but with a citrus edge), and grassy hops. The flavor is solid, expressing caramelish malt, some yeasty fruitiness, and a spritz of alcohol. It has a median bitterness, and it finishes drying but not sweet, with lingering somewhat-citrusy fruit and mild grassy hops.

Had this a few years ago from the bottle and really enjoyed it. Hadn’t seen it in a while until finding it on tap tonight. Didn’t have the strength of caramel I remembered and overall felt thin for a scotch ale. Hoping the bottles are still better and will give them a shot if I see them.

Not bad but nothing outstanding. Good aroma, reminds me of sweet tea of all things. Advertised as unfiltered and is barely hazy, red ale color. Head of 1/2in after aggressive pour so not very bubbly and rocky tan head shrinks but does stay thin layer to lace the glass as of 20min. I like malt more than hops so this being malt forward is fine by me. Light to med light mouth feel. Finishes quick---not much after taste. The 7% ABV a surprise, would have thought this was only 6.

12oz bottle, expiration date of 3/18/17. Pours light transparent amber with a below average sized off-white head; some lacing. Smells of sweet/roasted malt, earthy hops, peat, and caramel. The taste follows exactly with bright hops, caramel, sweet/roasted malt, and peat. Light sweetness and bitterness with a hint of dryness. Average body and carbonation. Overall, a very well-rounded Scotch Ale with some added earthy notes.
