Pours a hazelnut brown with a nice off white head and a little lacing. Nose is not very strong but has alcohol and dark fruits.

Taste is sweet at first then some dark cherry and plums. Some roasted malt in the finish. Mouth feel is pretty creamy. Alcohol is not very apparent. I would rate this beer higher if it had a little more nose and head which is more the characteristic of the type. However, the taste is good.

poured 12oz bottle into chalice.

A - Cinnamon brown and dark amber with almost no head. A few spots of lacing.

S - Belgian yeast, caramel, honey toast. A bit of spice and cinnamon.

T - Belgian yeast, plenty of spice and a hint of cinnamon. Brown sugar, caramel, and honey toast make up the sweetness.

M - Light mouthfeel, not as smooth as I expected.

0 - A decent beer, but nothing spectacular. This is what I would consider a decent holiday beer. Not an spiced up winter warmer.

Pours a clear crimson color with a thin head that quickly settled to a thin film. Moderate amount of spotty lacing is left down the glass. A bit of a letdown looks wise.

Good Belgian aroma. A lot of fruity notes with a distinct vinous quality. Could pass itself off as an actual dark ale from Belgium.

Unfortunately the flavor does not live up to expectations. It is a little heavy on the phenols which distracts from the ester qualities of the yeast. Some dark fruit and caramel notes but finishes a little astringent.

Does not feel anywhere near 9.5% ABV. Feels much lighter than that and is a little harshly carbonated.

Has some good qualities and is almost there, but there is some flaws in the flavor and carbonation. Probably a beer that would benefit from bottle conditioning.

Light brown pour into a tulip glass, with an off-white fluffy creamy head.

Banana taffy hits the nose first, plus booze and rye bread.

Not very complex in the mouth. Caramel malt, honey, and fruit-cake sweetness. Some indeterminate spice. Stone fruit presence, dried fruit, prune, date. Alcohol wafts on the breath in a lilting brightness, keeping things refreshing.

Medium-full bodied, creaminess, cut by med-high carbonation. Lovely mouthfeel. Serious body but still crisp.

It doesn't measure up to Gulden Draak or La Terrible or Brasserie des Rocs. But at $12 a six pack, it's perfectly serviceable, even pleasurable.
