No question this is a "good beer," possibly even great. But it does not quite meet my expectations. Port is one of my favorite breweries because I love hop-dominant beers, and I tend to think too many brewers of hoppy beers are overly concerned with "balance," and that Port was not guilty of this--until now. I expected Hop 15 to be a uniquely complex, hop-dominant beer, but it's not quite as unique as I expected, and it has a bit too much caramely malt flavor that masks the complexity of the hops. To be sure it is good, however, and there is something unique about the hoppiness--it's an unusual combination of earthy/grassy and citrusy/piney. In fact, interestingly, as it's warming up it's unique hoppy characteristics are coming out more. So I'm feeling more enthusiastic--and "mellow"--after all this is 10% abv! So I would say this is definitely one of those beers that improves as it and the glass warm. Final verdict is that although the malts still don't quite sit right with me, that this is another stellar offering from Port Brewing.
