Purchased at a liquor store in San Diego for $7.99. Poured from a 22oz bottle into my Bruery tulip. I've had this beer before but this is my first time reviewing it.
Appearance: Soft, hazy light-orange. Strong, foamy head that fades into a subtle, 3mm ring.
Nose: Immediately, I get hops, but soon thereafter comes citrus, backed by a floral fragrance.
Taste: Sweet hoppiness. The alcohol is well-masked. Lots of grapefruit and other citrus. Almost candy-like, reminiscent of one of my favorite candies - Sunkist Fruit Gems. The bitterness from hops is balanced with a well-defined, but not overbearing malt character. Wonderful mouthfeel - not as heavy as the ABV suggests. Very well carbonated.
Finish: A lingering, citrusy bitterness that I feel toward the back of my tongue, but it isn't revolting. This beer is addictive: it makes me want to take more and more sips.
OA: This may very well be my favorite San Diego DIPA. Maybe even my favorite altogether! The DIPAs I've had in the 10+% range are usually too sweet and too malty for me to think of them as DIPAs (I usually think of them as hoppy barleywines), but I feel Hop-15 maintains the IPA character.
If you're a fan of citrus and hops, this is an absolute must-try.
