Pours a hazy orange/red with a healthy amount of very finely bubbled foamy white (with a hint of yellow) head. Lace is absolutely everywhere. The body is a nice color for the style too.
Citrus and tropical fruit are firmly in charge of the nose, with grapefruit, orange, and mango coming out the most to me. There's definitely a lot of different fruit going on other than those though. A dose of pine, resin, and a sugary caramel scent from the malt round it all out. A touch of cold, dry bitterness at the end is nice too, and not that often in aromas of beers I've had.
The fruits mentioned in the nose are once again there, but lessened a bit, as the citrus is the biggest influence on the taste. The beer quickly moves from the grapefruit start to a piney, resiny, hot bitter hoppy middle/finish that is really fantastic. It's intense, and it WILL destroy your tastebuds for a while, but it isn't out of control in my opinion. Malt sweetness is slight, and present only in the start before it gets overwhelmed. Booze is evident at the end, and is the cool variety, not the warming one.
Mouthfeel is full and rich before it gets bone-dry during the intense bitterness. The body is refreshing without being too light, and the healthy carbonation helps with everything. Drinkability is tough to rate with this beer, as you won't be able to taste anything after one of these bombers, but the 10% abv is utilized perfectly and the finish is conducive to extended drinking. This beer is a bit harsh at times, but somehow that makes it all the more smooth...it doesn't make sense in written form - try the beer and you'll see what I mean.
