This one is dedicated to everyone who has gotten up at the butt crack of dawn, headed towards the shores and found it 4-6 feet and offshore only to find 30 of your “buddies” have already claimed the peak. As you paddle out, a swell arrives from nowhere signaling your turn to go. The surf Gods are shining on you today. You turn, stroke like mad for the wave. Standing up you are alone and blammo you Wipeout….blowing the only chance of a right hander all to yourself. You know who you are. We’ve all been there too. It’s inside each and every one of us.

Welcome to the waters of Wipeout IPA, a massively hopped India Pale Ale with enough substance and body to overcome even the worst and most tragic of on the water spills. We brew Wipeout IPA for everyone- especially those hardy souls who brave the cold winter water and monster sets produced by an amazing northwest swell. Only a tidal wave of hops can overcome the surging tide of malt that is required to produce a beer of this shape. We invite you to drop in, hang on and kick out the backside. That is, unless you enjoy wiping out and all the glory that goes with it.

Strong spruce tasting notes, with citrus following up. Classic West Coast flavor beer for those that appreciate the style and history of this brewery.

Bottle, shared by my beerpal Olav (bought at the brewery). ABV is 7.0%. Deep golden to orange colour, large white head. Nice aroma of American hops, strong notes of spruce. Very hoppy and bitter flavour. Some sweetness, but the bitterness is still overwhelming. Not Port Brewing’s best.

22 oz bottle - split two ways.
Pours a slightly less than clear golden orange with 1+ fingers of puffy white head.
Aroma piney, resinous, bready caramel malt with grapefruit and nectarine and a touch of dankness.
Taste starts a bit sweet - caramel, bready malt, resinous pine, tangerine, ripe grapefruit, and a building slightly floral hop bitterness.
Medium full mouthfeel with some sticky bitter sweetness under moderate carbonation and a lingering soft bitterness. Very well done - West Coast IPA with a subdued but present bitter bite.

Pours a fairly clear light orange with airy, soapy head.

Smell is citrusy and piney with notes of resin, caramel and a hint of onions.

Taste follows the nose, with the exception of a stronger onion note. Powerful bitterness, but still balanced. Hints of grapefruit peel on the finish.

Mouthfeel is medium, sticky and well carbonated.

Overall, a very nice west coast IPA, but a little bit too oniony to be truly great.

Crisp, bracing, moderately bitter IPA in the West Coast style. No date printed on bottle. Pours a yellow-orange color with some fluffy white head after a moderately aggressive pour and some small rings of lingering lacing. Smells of ripe grapefruit, mango, orange, lemon, pineapple and some weaker malt, floral hops, vanilla and bread. Taste follows the nose, great hit of bitter hoppiness at the foreground, good weaker sweet malt backbone. Smooth, mild, slightly sticky mouthfeel with good carbonation. Very enjoyable, refreshing and crisp. Higher ABV well hidden. Nicely done!

Slightly hazy golden color, no head to speak of and no lacing
Faint hoppy caramel on the nose
Taste is piney and overwhelming bitter compared to the malt.
Mouthfeel is a slight soap and not so smooth
Overall - Southern Tier is a hit or miss with their beers. A respectable brewery, but QC, not so sure.

Good, but not great, west coast style IPA .... Kinda boring to look at and smell, but pretty tasty ... The five star reviews are a bit surprising but still glad I tried

From notes 5/5/12: This one pours an opaque golden honey color. It forms a nice, 2 finger, frothy, lopsided, variously bubbled, beige, somewhat lasting head that leaves wispy but clumpy lace on the sides of the glass. Through the haze you can see that the brew is alive with swimming particulates. Aroma is caramel malt with a hint of toast, earthy, humidor cedar wood, spice, pine a touch of citrus and just a hint of white fruit. Taste is caramel sweet fronted mixing with earthy cedar wood, pine, grapefruit and orange hops by mid-sip; a pepper tone develops late to produce a lively finish. It becomes aggressively bitter in the aftertaste. Medium bodied with ample carbonation. A solid example of the style.

Classic feeling west coast IPA.
Plenty of hops in smell and flavor. Good bitterness, while maybe not overly aggressive compared to the old days it stands out now.
