Great old stand-by reviewed at Lost Abbey

Appearance is a translucent dark yellow hue, thin layer of white head, light lacing on the glass

Smell is clean and crisp bread malts, light citrus hops, subtle aromas but well-balanced

Taste is initially characterized by pine and citrus hops, some hints of grass and pine, background flavor of pale malts, finishes bitter with slight alcohol warming

Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, oily and slick texture, mild carbonation

Drinkability is high, an amazing single IPA with a great SoCal style, the hops are well-balanced with malts and do not overwhelm, very "sessionable"... I could drink this one all night long

Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: Manzanita pint glass
From: VONS in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $4.23 (w/ VONS card) (also 20 percent off)
Purchased: April 10, 2014
Consumed: April 17, 2014
Misc.: Bottled Jan. 31, 2014; Have had this so many times but only recently realized that I’ve never rated it

Poured a caramel, amber, semi-clear color with two fingers of pillowy off-white head. A nice line of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Tons of layered foamy lacing along the sides of the glass. Thick coating of lacing on the top.

Smelled pine, soapy notes, grapefruit, wet cascade hops, lime, citrus hops, floral hops and lemon zest. Just lovely.

Tasted pretty close to the nose, although not as much grapefruit as I remember. Got floral hops, citrus hops, pine, soap, cascade hops, grapefruit, lime, lemon and caramel.

Light-to-medium body. Creamy-to-oily texture. Average carbonation. Bitter finish.

Just a very good IPA. No surprises from my past times having it. Definitely one of my go-to IPA’s.

Poured from a 22oz bottle dated 1/3/14 poured into a Teku glass
A: Burnt orange with a two-finger head that settles to a one-finger height then lingers
S: Orange, mango, florals, toasted malt & a touch of caramel
T: Less expressive than the nose, notes of citrus, toasted malt & caramel
M: Medium-bodied
O: I like Mongo better but this is a very solid IPA, definitely worth a try
