A : pours a half head, super thick white that looks like it is going no where (not a very aggressive pour mind you). At least the head is inviting. Color is a honey gold and with lots of bubbles pouring towards the top.
S : I can already smell the hops while the glass is sitting next to me. super hoppy smelling with notes of pine, lemon peel, and a bit of mint. there is a small malt backbone of sweet malt and maybe a tinge of honey.
T : starts nicely balanced with a very sweet malt and a hoppy dominance. very vibrant with a strong pine flavor. The hop flavors that follow are a mix of lemongrass, pine, dried orange peel (just a tad) and more pine. Great power in the hops yields to a honey malt flavor and a nice linger of hops at the end.
M : pretty easy going and drinkable. Nice hop flavor that holds off the booze, however the carbonation is lost in the head. I tried another pour into a tiny tasting glass and it was much better. The effervescence helps to carry the hop flavors even more than slightly flat.
Overall an excellent double ipa. Hops are great and the malt is just enough there that it isn't hop juice. The balance is great. This is however the third bomber of port beer that has been poured slowly and still was a giant ball of thick head. maybe it is travel related. Carbonation issues aside this is a great beer.
