Consumed July 24th, 2010.
Beer pours an ever-so-slightly cloudy yellow-orange. In contrast to some reports, the two bottles I opened both had proper carbonation, forming a 1.5 finger off-white head that stuck around for some time and left decent lacing in our glasses.
Aroma is quite hoppy, but without the usual grapefruit/pine components; this is more herbal, woody and a little spicy. Faintly sweet caramel malt as well.
Malt is moderate to pronounced, though nowhere near a level I would characterize as "strong". Pine and resiny hop notes quickly flit away into the end-taste, which is primarily a big wash of bitterness.
Beer is somewhat chewy, though not enough so to surprise. Slightly dry as well. Good carbonation helps things out a great deal.
Easy enough to down a pint of this, though there's nothing particularly outstanding about this DIPA. Alcohol is not overpowering and, despite the significant bitterness, still drinkable enough. Not in a hurry to get another one, though.
