American Black Ale |  8.20% ABV

Notes/Commercial Description:
Hop Noir is a delectable Black IPA, dripping with piney, aromatic Centennial hops. The malt base is dark and rich, anchored by organic black malt. This provides a strong foundation for the extravagant kettle hopping and dry-hopping that this beer experiences. Enjoy with a night-light.

A - black with a big, thick, brownish head with great retention

S - floral, faint citrus, chocolate

T - roasted malts, chocolate, some caramel, piny, floral, mildly bitter, faint citrus

M - medium bodied, smooth, well carbonated

I really liked this beer. It wasn't perfect, but it was complex and well put together. The hoppyness wasn't overbearing nor did it fatigue the palate but it had depth and was multi-layered. Much the same can be said about the malt. I was impressed also with how drinkable such a complex offering could be. Any fan of Black IPAs should definitely give this a try.

Pours a dark chocolate black with raspberry red highlights when held to light. Nice coffee colored fluffy two finger head leaves a thick lace and is slow to recede.

Smells of dark roasted malts, dry cherries and sweet raspberry. Moderate dank pine, and wheat bread crust.

Tastes of bright toasty malts with touch of malt sweetness, dry cherries, and raspberry sweetness, follows the nose well. Mild evergreen hop bitter with a smoky dry chalk middle. A touch of burnt malts on the finish with a tiny bit of metallic tinge.

Feels smooth up front turning thin, with a bit of smoke, and burnt malts, thinning out the carbonation

Overall a pleasant sweetness balanced by a touch of smoke and slightly burnt malts, light in general but good and refreshing dark IPA.
