Hop Noir is a delectable Black IPA, dripping with piney, aromatic Centennial hops. The malt base is dark and rich, anchored by organic black malt. This provides a strong foundation for the extravagant kettle hopping and dry-hopping that this beer experiences. Enjoy with a night-light.

A thanks to the founding father of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a very dark brown color with a 1 inch head. Smell is mild, a bit of pine. Taste is of pine, minty, some roasted malts. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall it's decent, but nothing special.

Happy New CANned Modern Twin Peak Evil Times Beer Sunday (Week 744), Round 5! The CANQuest (tm) is getting a good workout.

From the CAN: "A dark and dank Double IPA"; "Local sourcing[,] Bright juicy hops[,] Certified organic"; "The best ingredients in beer".

I usually CAN't get excited about these Cascadian/Black IPAs, but the name of this one just speaks to me. My surname is ChANdler & my late Pops referred to the novelist as his "pseudo-Uncle Raymond", making him my "pseudo-Great Uncle". He is the floating head in the upper L of my avatar. I have studied Film Noir extensively & I have read most of the Akashic Books' "Noir" series. I Crack!ed this mutt over the head & dragged him into the alley for further questioning, Oops! I Crack!ed open the vent on the CAN & gave it a brass knuckle Glug, letting it run freely into the C-Line of the awaiting cell, I mean, glass. It actually caused a pseudo-cascade, which was a double-plus bonus for yours truly, eventually settling into two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, deep-tan/light-brown head with very good retention. Color was Dark Brown to Very Dark brown (SRM = > 27, < 34) with NE-quality clarity & mahogany highlights. Nose had the scent of a liquefied York Peppermint Patty - dark chocolate & minty hops! This is why it should be listed as an American Black Ale - calling it a DIPA would not do it justice. Mouthfeel was medium, good for an ABA, light for a DIPA. My bugaboo with the ABA style is and has been that the roasty malts get in the way of the precious hops. That said, if one is reviewing to style, then it is spot on! This was a great example of the ABA style in that it was really rich with a dark chocolatiness offset by a pleasant minty hoppiness. Even better was that it had an admixture of mints to include peppermint & spearmint. Yum! It was literally quite cool in the mouth & on the tongue. Finish was cool and dry. like smoking a menthol cigarette in a Maduro wrapper. Yum! YMMV.

Dark and dark is a perfect description.
Very dark color.
Taste is a tad bitter with strong hops and a touch or caramel.
Almost stoutish.
I prefer a lighter cloudy IPA but this was tasty.
Not sure I would buy again but would drink one if offered.

Pours out dark brown, but looks black in the glass. Topped by a huge fluffy, creamy beige head with great retention and sheets of lacing.
Smells like pine, grapefruit, blueberry, dark chocolate, coffee, earth, maple syrup.
Tastes of lemon, grapefruit, blueberry, lemon, and pine upfront. Burnt toast, cacao, dark chocolate, and black coffee ease in, leading up to a roasted finish with some lingering bitterness of black coffee, pine, and grapefruit peel.
Medium mouthfeel, well carbonated, slightly resinous.
A fine black IPA. A good example of the style.

Huge, billowing, fluffy beige head with a nice steady lacing. Nose is really sweet and malty with the bitterness supplied by just a hint of piney, which is quickly supplanted by candy orange. Taste is a touch more earthy and less sweet, therefore I think it’s in pretty good balance. So it starts out with a black olive thing before the malt pops in, supplying a steady sweetness that cuts the bitter. On exit is a nice bitter dark chocolate before the gritty, dry bitterness remains on the tongue. For being a high ABV beer, there is virtually no heat at all, like none. Body is deceptively thin as well.

16 oz can into IPA glass. Dated BB 6/29/19.
Look is cloudy black. Smell is light fruit on top and roasted malt ending. Taste follows nose exactly. Feel is light. Overall a nice interesting IPA that's a little maltier than most. Worth a try.

This one has a deep thick roasted malt base with mix of bitter black coffee and a blackstrap molasses sweetness. The hop flavor is strong and adds a dank piney resin like character. It finishes with some lingering sweetness fighting with hop bitterness and a touch of boozy alcohol. The feel is full and almost chewy with soft slick carbonation.

12 oz. bottle in a stemmed glass.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown, near black. Short crown of tan bubbles.

Aroma: Nose is piney, herbal. Notes of coffee.

Taste: Nice mix of dark chocolate, coffee, pine and some citrus. Tastes more or less like a piney stout.

Mouthfeel: Depth is more akin to a stout than an IPA. A sipper.

Overall: Well executed beer. Had I to drink this again, I wouldn't pair it with leftover pizza. More of a companion for a good, hearty meal. Well done.

From the bottle, it pours a dark ruby brown, almost black, with a moderate head, dissipating to a thin layer with a slightly larger ring. Some citrus in the nose, along with some malt. The mouth revels in the roasted malt, ending with a slight bitterness in the back of the mouth. To me it is lighter than I expected, considering the alcohol. Wow!

Dark brown color with light brown head. Aroma is somehow herbal, like some sort of plant extract. Taste is a bit smokey, dusty, slightly sweet and roasty at first but gets bitter on the finish and lingers in the aftertaste. Body is quite light and well carbonated. Alcohol is present but I wouldn't have guessed it's as strong as it is. It's ok but I wouldn't drink it again.
