Extremely pale and clear. Virtually no head.

Pumpkin pie aroma. Almost nothing else. Maybe a bit of malty aroma? But not much.

Delicate spice flavor. Nothing else.

Watery, thin, fizzy American mass-market mouthfeel. Disappointing.

This is by far the worst pumpkin beer I've ever had. Put some pumpkin pie spice in a Coors Banquet, and you've got this piece of Shipyard. A coworker suggested I try this beer. I'll never trust his beer taste again.

Over the counter straight out of 12oz bottle at bar.

Ok - Pumpkins beers are not my thing, but I enjoy trying a couple of these during Halloween Season.

As others has wrote, this one is not overpowering and has pumpkin flavoring & standard fall spices. In fact your could probably have 1 or 2 of these before moving on.

This is OK but not worthy of pursuit. I had this one and can now move onto next pumpkin. Still looking for the one pumpkin worthy of high votes.

This one ranks avergae or better for me.

Pours a clear light orange with a 1/2 inch fizzy off-white head that fades to nothing No lacing on this one. Smell is of malt/grain, slight pumpkin, and some subdued spice aromas. Taste is of an adjunct lager with some minor pumpkin pie spices thrown in. Not very balanced overall. This beer has a high level of carbonation with a crisp and prickly mouthfeel. Overall, this is not a very good beer but I had to try it for myself to see if all the negative reviews were warranted. They were.

Right off the bat I gotta point out that the BA Bros score of "F" is way to harsh.

Pumpkinhead is a sentimental favorite as it's been around a lot longer than most other pumkin beers. The best quality of the beer is it's drinkability. Now there are many pumpkin beers that pack more taste and higher alcohol with a more complex taste but few as drinkable and as well-balanced as PH.

If you're looking for a seasonal-pumpkin style beer that is not exploding with vanilla, all-spice, and sugar sweetness. This it the beer to try. Other wise stick to the Pumking, Weyer Imp Pumkin, Hoppin Frog Pumpkin Hollow, etc.

This rating is on a bottle but I would recommend trying on tap if able.

This beer is misleading...when I get a beer named Pumpkinhead I expect to taste, well, pumpkin.
The appearance is nice, its a golden, crystal clear beer with a fizzy white head.
The smell is the first thing that threw me off. At first I couldn't place what I was smelling, but then it hit me, cola. There is also an herbal tea aroma with vanilla and cinnamon, which all put together doesn't work that well.
The taste is interesting, tricky to work out, but much the same as the aroma: a strange vanilla cola mixed with beer combo.
The mouthfeel is the weakest part of this beer: thin and unimpressive.
Overall its a strange, not really pumpkin beer that I won't be falling over myself to suggest to others.

A - Very clear and bubbly, straw color. Foamy white head which does not leave a lot of lacing

S - There is sort of a chalkiness to the aroma, not a lot of anything else, not really picking up any pumkin or spice.

T - Taste is very bland, very little going on. Lacks any discernable pumkin or spice flavor.

M - Wosrt aspect of this beer is the mouthfeel. Very watered down taste, and the feel is like I am drinking a flavored water

O - Was hoping to go against the grain and like this one, but my experience fell in line with the majority on here. Forgettable.

A: clear golden with amber hues, single finger head and no lace.

S: this one almost smells more like a saison. they get the spiciness but no the pimpkin-ness.

T: some pumpkin and malt. Little else. A little watery.

M: light to medium body and moderate carbonation.

Overall: dont think this is an F beer. It is a safe pumpkin ale. It is no where near the best but its drinkable and meant for a more broad category of beer drinkers.

This amber-colored, 5.1%-ABV wheat ale offered by Shipyard Brewing Company was an alright seasonal treat. It had very little head, and the little bit it did have was white and frothy. I was surprised that there was very little pumpkin smell - the waft that hit my nose was all ale. After the first taste, it was evident why there was little pumpkin smell - there wasn't much of a pumpkin taste either. The beer had a subtle spiced flavor with just enough bite to it. Once the aftertaste kicked in, I did notice a faint cinnamon pumpkin flavor, but still not very strong.

This looks like a gold lager. Some bubbles. Clear. No real head and no lacing. Strong cinnamon?...

This tastes like they took a lager and threw in a bunch of Red Hot/Atomic Fireballs for flavor. Maybe there's some cinnamon thrown in, too. But this is just not a good attempt. This has a sour aftertaste. If this is skunked, fair enough, but from the reviews I'm going to assume this is not skunked.

I give this a D. While it's better than most American Macros, this is a lie as a Pumpkin ale. It's a non-beer drinkers pumpkin ale.

Poured into a pint glass.

A: Clear golden color with two-finger, off-white, foamy head that lasted a while. Not much lacing. A little light for a pumpkin ale, but otherwise okay.

S: Light malt smell. Maybe some pumpkin, not sure. Alcohol.

T: Moderate sweetness and no bitterness. Artificial tasting. Malt aftertaste. Some spice. Not sure about pumpkin.

M: Light mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation. Too thin.

O: The taste really killed this beer. Terrible.

Poured a 12 oz. into my PBR Stemmed Glass Goblet.

A- Golden Color white head that disappears quickly, lacing almost non existent.

S- This is one bizarre beer, all that I can smell is spices with a slight beer smell in the background.

T- Strong spices, no maltiness, a slight sourness.

M- Thin and too much carbonation.

O- Try another Pumpkin Ale, this one is not worth buying.

A: Pours a golden color with very little head and little cabonation. It has the appearance of a blond. You can see through this beer, its clear and not cloudy.

S: Its like a light pumpkin pie, a very mild pumpkin spice smell to it. No trace of alcohol smell on it. After I took a sip of it, and smelled again I could pick up on the smell of the fruit. Overall a very nice smell.

T: Definately has been brewed with pumpkin, no doubting that from the taste. The "fruit" from the pumpkin is front and center and the spice in it is very tame. It has a hint of sour in there but nothing overpowering. Slightly bitter. *EDIT* Didn't finish the whole beer before I reviewed. As this beer sat it got worse, and the fruit started to overwhelm the rest of the beer. This wasn't a good thing. Dropping from 3 to 2.

M: Light carbonation, doesn't feel heavy at all. Nothing too bubbly. This is a light beer.

O: This isn't my favorite style, but for what this is, its not too bad. I could have a few of these in the season.

Pours pale orange in color with good clarity. Off white head stood approximatley one finger high immediately following my pour, but has settle to a ring of foam around the inside of the glass. Minimal head retention and lacing.

Very mild aroma. A bit of pumpkin I guess, but the spices are pretty much non-existent. Maybe just a touch of faint cinnamon. Starting to smell a bit like an autumn scented candle now (I let it warm up a bit).

I'm getting fizz/carbonation up front. Not too much else follows. This beer goes from thin to thinner very quickly. Taste is watered down and has an artificial candy vibe going on.

Thin mouthfeel with fizzy carbonation.

Not too impressed overall. It doesn't taste terrible, but this is definitely the most lackluster Pumpkin Ale that I've sampled, and I've had quite a few.

Morey's Bottom Line: Maybe this would be good for your girlfriend/wife or someone who normally drinks macro crap. Other than that, I can't see a reason to buy this when there are SO many better examples.

A - Pours a very light amber in color, a bit of head that goes way quickly, no lacing at all.

S - Smells like a pumpkin spice latte, not to much going on here.

T - The taste is nothing to brag about, very boring, spicy and sweet, almost no alcohol present, a bit of pumpkin.

M - Lots of carbonation, very watery for this type of beer.

O - This is a cheap pumpkin brew, nothing crazy, very bored with this one, this is a great brew for beginners trying the pumpkin brews

Poured into glass from growler.

First impression

apperance was very light for a pumpkin beer, almost gold, not copper like it should be. Very little head, slightly overcarbonated.

smell was that of pumpkin but could not really smell any of the spices im use to

taste was a bit watered down, definitelly not what I was expecting. Trully lacked that pumpkin pie taste.

Overall I was not really impressed, had an overall feel of drinking a cheap beer or almost pumpkin flavored water. Will try again, this time out of a bottle.

Poured into a Cigar City snifter. Freshness date says best before January '12.

A- Pours a deep gold color with an 1/8 inch head and some lacing.

S- Mmm. Sweet, spicy pumpkin pie. Brown sugar, cloves. I could whiff this beer all day without even drinking it and be satisfied

T- Flavor is not as in-your-face as the aroma. Still getting pumpkin but it fades fast into a tingly, spicy sweetness with little to no hoppiness/bitterness. Malts also not making much of an appearance due to the overwhelming sugary-ness of the brew. Kinda tastes like soda since it's so light in alcohol. However, the pumpkin doesn't necessarily taste artificial. There's an idea: Pumpkin soda? Anyways, back to beer.

M- Like I said, tingly but not overbearing. Good compliment to the overall drinkability of the beer. Thin consistency further solidifies its sessionable nature.

O- I've had the Smashed Pumpkin before and enjoyed it thoroughly, especially on tap. I would opt for that rather than this but it's still a worthy brew

A&S - Pours a very light orange with 2 fingers of white head that dies down quickly. Smells of faint pumpkin, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.

T&M - Tastes light a pumpkin soda. Very VERY light, tastes a little like pumpkin but many the average pumpkin pie spices: Cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and a bit of ginger.

O - Overall, not disgusting, but nothing to be amazed by. I can see why its labeled as a malt liquor, and I hear the Smashed Pumpkin, which is waiting for me in my fridge is way better. Again, it just tastes more like a pumpkin soda. Cheers~!

S: Cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. There is a faint squash-like aroma as well.

T: Similar to the aroma, lots of spices and not much else. It has a chemical taste to it as well. For some reason it reminds me of Pine Sol.

M: Light body with mid-high carbonation, this beer is very spritzy like a soda.

O: Not a good beer. Bland and chemical lack without any depth of aroma or flavor.

I wouldn't say this is the worst beer in the world but it reminds me of the 'Bud Light' of Pumpkin ales. It poured a very light yellowish color and was very sweet to the taste. I could taste pumpkin and given how cheap and widely available in my area it is, its not bad.

alright, first pumpkin ale of the fall! Pours a bright golden color, which was completely unexpected, as most pumpkin beers I have had in the past are more coppery colored. The head foamed up nicely, but dissipated really fast, not an encouraging sign. Smells heavily of spice, some pumpkin on the nose. These two smells combine to be a bit overwhelming in my opinion. The taste is ok, very similar to pumpkin pie. Its almost too strong for a pumpkin ale, but its not terrible. A bit watery. Overall, it tastes heavily of pumpkin, and could easily turn someone off to the concept of the stye.

Bottle shared by Jason, another part of our mini-pumpkin beer tasting. Best before February 2012.

Poured a clear orange, a light white head falls to a collar and some bubbles. Nose is all cinnamon hearts, some light malt and stinky (almost euro pale lager) qualities, without being wholly offensive; cinnamon characteristic dominate and disguise really anything else pumpkin related going on here. Taste is all cinnamon again, with some lesser crust/bread notes going on. Mouthfeel is light and watery, with a weird malt character. Too thin, and not enough in terms of anything pumpkin pie related to make this worthwhile for me. The worst of the night, but not dreadfully so.

Served in a Gale Sayers shaker pint glass.

Keepin' the pumpkin beers rollin' in while they're still around. This one pours a pale golden amber topped by a half-finger of dirty white foam. The nose comprises cinnamon, mild toffee, light clove, brown sugar, and dry grass. The taste brings in more of the same, with milder and buttery-er toffee, more grass, and with slightly watered-down spices. The body is a rather light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a slick, almost watery feel. Overall, a pretty sad pumpkin beer, probably one of the worst I've had so far this year.

This beer has the appearance of a dark ginger ale, with no head and large carbonation bubbles it doesn't resemble beer that much. It smells like a cheap adjunct lager that was mixed with cinnamon or big red. Overpowering with some kind of extract or synthetic flavoring; have you ever seen the part in Dumbo where he accidentally drinks a bunch of booze and hallucinates? Drink enough of this stuff and that might happen, there's some nasty stuff in there, it's not natural and it sure as hell isn't pumpkin. I rarely give ratings this low but it's deserved for this one.
