Shipyard Brown Ale is a good beer product that starts of nicely with a solid head of foam and an aroma that offers earthy notes along with toffee. The foam doesn’t last very long- it fizzles out rather quickly leaving glass of light brown liquid behind.

This beer has some nice flavor attributes like nuts, toffee, caramel, chocolate, and diacetyl. The diacetyl taste isn’t too bad even though many will likely be turned off by this characteristic. There is some short- lived bitterness in the finish but the overall taste is sweet and the beer is easy to drink.

Shipyard Brown is many nautical miles from being a great brown ale but it is still good enough to try. It’s a little lighter than I prefer but there is enough good taste to make it worth an occasional sample.

12 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter 1 month before BB date.

Pours clear dark reddish-brown with a weak head that leaves minimal lacing.

Aroma: Caramel and medium roasted malts; faint hint of English hops.

Flavor: moderately strong; limited complexity; slightly sweet balance. A touch of spicy hops in the finish and hints of smoke and coffee in the lingering aftertaste.

Feel: smooth, medium-full body with medium-light carbonation.

O: near average for style.

12 ounce bottle -> snifter

A - dark mahogany brown with a one finger caramel colored head, no real retention and minimal lacing.

S - grass, dark fruit, figs, raisins

T - molasses, toffee, lemon tartness, raisins, and a very fizzy cola taste

M - lots of carbonation, fairly thick

O - not my favorite beer ever, but as brown ales go, this one is okay.

Bottle > Pint Glass

A - Dark brown with a finger of fizzy off white head, a few spots of lacing.
S - Roasted malts, dark fruit, toffee, toast, some earthy and herbal hops.
T - Sweet malt up front, not so roasty, some fig and pum, herbal hop bite, toffee creamy traits on the end.
M - Good feel, not heavy, but a little chewy, goes down easy.
O - This is a decent brown ale, enough complexity and character to be appreciated.
