12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a beautiful, completely opaque, deep, dark, mahogany color with an eighth of a finger of white-colored head that quickly dissolved into a thin lacing of foam that partially covered the top of the beer.

Aroma: Nice aromas of roasted malt, imparting notes of freshly baked and toasted dark bread and biscuits. I also get some notes of black pepper, lots of brown sugar and slight touch of floral, piney, hops.

Taste: Nice beer! Lots of bready, roasted malt flavors up front, followed by some good brown sugar-like sweetness, black pepper, and a touch of dried stone fruit, such as raisins and prunes. There is just a touch of nicely balanced hoppy bitterness at the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and nicely effervescent as there is some good carbonation to tickle the taste buds. With an ABV of 5.4%, there is no alcohol on the palate.

Overall: Nice beer. Good flavors of bready, roasted malt nicely blended with some brown sugar-like sweetness and slightly bitter hops. Recommended to all malt fans.

12 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter 1 month before BB date.

Pours clear dark reddish-brown with a weak head that leaves minimal lacing.

Aroma: Caramel and medium roasted malts; faint hint of English hops.

Flavor: moderately strong; limited complexity; slightly sweet balance. A touch of spicy hops in the finish and hints of smoke and coffee in the lingering aftertaste.

Feel: smooth, medium-full body with medium-light carbonation.

O: near average for style.

12 ounce bottle -> snifter

A - dark mahogany brown with a one finger caramel colored head, no real retention and minimal lacing.

S - grass, dark fruit, figs, raisins

T - molasses, toffee, lemon tartness, raisins, and a very fizzy cola taste

M - lots of carbonation, fairly thick

O - not my favorite beer ever, but as brown ales go, this one is okay.

Bottle > Pint Glass

A - Dark brown with a finger of fizzy off white head, a few spots of lacing.
S - Roasted malts, dark fruit, toffee, toast, some earthy and herbal hops.
T - Sweet malt up front, not so roasty, some fig and pum, herbal hop bite, toffee creamy traits on the end.
M - Good feel, not heavy, but a little chewy, goes down easy.
O - This is a decent brown ale, enough complexity and character to be appreciated.
