Presentation: 12 oz. brown long neck. Burgundy coloured label with a picture of a old New England Shipyard. Best Before Date clearly scored.
Appearance: Tar black with a creamy tiny bubbled tan head that retains.
Smell: Fruity and tangy roasted aromas with a fine floral hop nose.
Taste: Earthy roasted barley that is somewhat dry hits the mouth in the beginning then a rounded smoothness of grain, touches of dark chocolate and roasted husk hits in the middle. Nice touch of hop bitterness with a light but complex leaf flavour. Maltiness seems a bit thin. A fading roasted barley and coffee flavour lasts for a bit and let some burnt caramel in the end.
Notes: Forget American Guinness ... this is a far better stout, better when on tap as the bottle tasted too filtered to me.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass. No best by date to be found.
A) Dark, dark brown with no hints of light penetrating. A quarter inch of light tan head caps it of and recedes to sporadic patches of dense tan rings clinging to the sides of the glass.
S) Am I drinking a caramel mocha because it sure smells like one. Touch of bitter hops and some malty sweetness floating around also. Some dark chocolate also.
T) Roasted malts accompanied by rich caramel that I picked up on heavily in the nose. CoaCoa and black coffee with a little hop bitterness round things out nicely.
M) Rich, creamy, and smooth. Carbonation is light, makes for a very sessionable, easy drinking stout.
O) First offering I've tried from Shipyard, a pretty damn tasty Irish Dry that hits the spot. Well done.
