Poured into a Sam Adams Glass

A - Nice garnet color with a steady carbonation and steady head.

S - Very pleasant aroma. Toasty bread along with a noticeable sweetness. Faint presence of hops.

T - Sweet off the bat. After the sweetness is the toast in the nose with faint spiciness on the tail from the hops. Flavors seem muted due to the sweetness.

M - Easy drinker but thin on the mouth. Pleasant lingering toast and grain.

D - A very average beer after having high hopes from the appearance and nose. Would definitely drink it again but not really seeking this one out. Over all just above average.

An extremely pleasant surprise. Thanks, boss via beer of the month club. Poured into a Bruery tulip (a bit fancy for this, but hey!)...

A deep, brilliant amber with no real lacing but decent retention. That said, it's got a great, clear, radiant glow to it that moves it up a notch. Moderate aroma, and it's a bit out of style, this is Marzen by way of an illicit trist between an English Pale of some variety and an American Amber (minus the American hops). Aroma is toffee and medium toast and just a hint of cherry. On the palate this is nice balanced, nicely bitter and dry, backing a medium-full mid-palate of more toffee and toasted grain. This is a nice, well bodied brew that fulfills the obligations of an oktoberfest, but it's a bit more robust and perhaps a bit ragged around the edges. Still, a solid decision, and if you're a big seasonal fan this is a nice one to switch it up on. They've rangled the Ringwood here and tamed it to a passable purpose.

I don't know why this beer gets such bad reviews. I think it's actually pretty decent to be honest. I got 3 bottles of it as part of a "Beer of the Season" club that my wife gave me as a gift.

A: Poured from a bottle into a crystal beer mug. Has a medium caramel brown appearance with a slight burnt orange hue as well. No real hints of red. Looks like I'd expect an Octoberfest to look like.

S: Mostly caramel. Very mild hop aroma. Smell is mild and not overpowering. Nothing special but nothing awful either.

T: I think this beer tastes pretty good. The caramel definitely comes through as does the sweetness. A little "fall spice" in there but not too much. Hops are very mild (which I like because I don't particularly like "hoppy" beers. Leaves very little bitterness at the finish.

M: A little on the carbonated side for me. Leaves a pretty clean taste on the palate. Actually gets a little less carbonated and has a better mouthfeel when it gets just a tad bit warmer.

D: All in all, pretty smooth. I could have 2-3 no problem. Isn't heavy at all and none of the flavors are so overpowering that "one'll do ya."

There are definitely better seasonal/autumn beers out there but there are definitely worse ones too.

Mr. October is Reggie Jackson yet the bottle has a picture of Ted Williams at Fenway. I think Tremont is confused. My first Oktoberfest of the year!

Crystal clear orange with a 1 finger white hat. Great retention and several sticky lace rings. Drink by date of 2/11.

Aroma is light grains and a clean, honeyed yeast character akin to Otter Creek and Long Trail. Taste is light grains, a hint of toasted malt, and a English tea hop bitter in back. It may smell clean but the toasted malt and hops come through as soapy, and cloying.

This beer doesn't have much flavor nor is it clean enough to be enjoyable on subtlety. A poorly designed beer from bottle to liquid.

This is a BOTMC that's been cellared until I got to it and it says best before 03/10, so lets give a whirl. Popping the top this brew is a super malty typical oktoberfest smelling brew. It pours to a deep orange bronze with a big foamy head. The taste is much better than even the smell. More balanced than I expected, this brew starts malty but instantly there is a dry hop bite that remains mostly balanced throughout. Not much variance throughout the taste followed by a dryer lightly bitter aftertaste. This is almost leaning towards an alt bier. A tasty beer. I'm am lacking the brats with sauerkraut to bring out its full flavor, no doubt.

A - A lovely reddish bronze with a sizable head and a bit of lacing occurring in both a thick band and scattered flecks.

S - Grasses, faint black pepper, hay and hints of caramel malt. As it warms a doughy aroma emerges.

T - Rich malty profile. Bread, caramel, grasses, white pepper, bread dough and very faint cola. Aftertaste is a very mild grassy bitterness to compliment the sweet malts still lingering on the tongue. I have trouble imagining a way to have an Oktoberfest deliver a more pleasant combination of flavors.

M - Carbonation is a good amount, thick, refreshing. Leaves a bit of a syrupy film on the tongue.

D - Pretty great overall. I am more impressed with this than I thought I would be (especially considering the poor reviews). The flavor is all around quality. Nowhere in the beer does anything unpleasant really appear. The profile has a vast depth while still maintaining a degree of drinkability that is A vastly under-appreciated beer in my opinion.

Poured into a typical pint glass...

A-Gold/ Ambered transparent body with a scant head that lead to minimal lacing.
S-Carmel, Seasonal Spice, Toasted Malt, and Hopps.
T-Sweet and carmel spiced on the draw with a simple hopped finish.
M-Very typical of a Marzen beer ..light at first leading to a hopped tingled dry aftertaste.
D-If it was price comparable to Sam Adams then it's very drinkable...but if a 12pk will cost me $32 plus s&h....through the BOTM club....they can keep it!

Beer of the month club - Oct 09

A: Pours a light amber, very minmal head that quickly disapears. Leaves no lacing.

S: Really not much going on here. A little bit of sweet toffee.

T: Caramel and malt, but a little too much bitterness wipes it out though.

M: Mouthfeel is light.

D: Not a difficult beer to drink, but something is just a little bit off. I'll finish the ones I have, but it's not one I would buy against other options.

12oz. bottle served in a standard pint. Best enjoyed before March 2010 indicated on the bottle. Poured a translucent amber with a half inch, loose off-white head that sizzled and popped and quickly receded into a skim; no lacing on this one. Nose was caramel malt with a slight chemical quality that comes out towards the back. Taste consistent with nose, caramel is somewhat muted and mixed with the weird chemical character suggested in the nose that seems to come across as a bit of skunkiness. Mouthfeel is light-medium with a lively and consistent background effervescence. Not great - my second Tremont in two nights and I am definitely underwhelmed. Vaguely style consistent, but the off-putting flavors on this beer make it a virtual drain pour.

Received in October shipment of my BOTM club.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Flat Earth Pint glass.

Appearance: Almost reddish-amber with very thin off-white head, no lacing. Interesting color for a "Marzen".

Smell: Caramel, cherry, almost medicinal. Slight toast smell expected for a Marzen but not much.

Taste: What is this mess? Medicinal cherry, with caramel and toast. Metallic bitterness at finish with a bad aftertaste.

Feel: Moderate carbonation, medium body, weird off finish.

Drinkability: There is a reason no one mixes a Marzen with an English Ale.

From the BOTM club...

Appearance - Pours a dark amber color with about a finger of quickly dissipating head. There is very little lacing (literally none).

Smell - An odd sweet malt/caramel smell with just a hint of hops showing through.

Taste - Pretty sweet flavor that is followed immediately by a somewhat bitter taste. Again, something tastes just a bit off. I can't put my finger on it (metallic taste?).

Mouthfeel - Light mouthfeel. Decent carbonation.

Drinkability - Relatively easy to drink though I would not want to session this beer because there are so many other Oktoberfest beers out there I would rather drink. Would not pick this up in the store.

part of my October BOTM Club shipment...

Pours a clear copper, fluffy off white head, ok lacing. Smell is of sweet carmel, toffe, butter with a small hop note. Taste follows smell with a sweet carmel and buttery toffe taste, suprisingly decent hop flavor in the finnish. A little understaed flavor profile though for the style. Medium bodied, decent carbonation, slightly slick. Decent fall brew, while it doesnt do anything memorable, it doesnt do anything wrong, have had much worse.

T - Follows the nose sweet caramel malt with some spice

M - This beer has a medium body with medium carbonation to it

D - Not the best Oktoberfest out there but not the worst either just your average fall seasonal
