A full-bodied, very dark, malty beer with a good roasted character. The beer has an OG of 1.070, rounding out after fermentation with just a slight residual sweetness and cutting dry at the finish.

A: Pitch black with a huge, creamy, beige head and lots and lots of lacing.

S: Butterscotch, Caramel, Roasted malts, Chocolate and a hint of vanilla.

T: Roasted malts, Chocolate, Hint of metal, Dark caramel, Butterscotch, Coffee.

M: Very sweet taste upfront with a bold bitterness at the end. A very drinkable porter.

The best beer i've tried from this brewery so far. Not bad at all.

Poured from a brown 22 oz. bottle. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of chocolate, roasted malts. Taste is roasted malts, light chocolate, slightly sour, hints of smoke. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a pretty good beer.

Pugsley’s Signature Series: Imperial Porter from Shipyard Brewing. Purchased 11/10/20 for $ 9.25 (Including tax and discount) for 22 oz SCREW-TOP bottle ($ 0.420/oz) from State Line Liquors in Elkton, MD. Reviewed 6/1/21.
Undated bottle. On room temperature shelf at store and stored at home at 42 degrees. Served at 50.9 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 55.9 degrees.
Appearance – 3.25.
First pour – Amber brown (SRM 18), clear.
Body – Deep brown (SRM 30), opaque. When held to direct light, same.
Head – Average (Maximum one cm, aggressive center pour), buff, medium density, short retention, leaving a two to five mm crown fed by effervescence, and a thin partial cap. Second pour high density 0.8 cm.
Lacing – Fair. Thin strands of extremely tiny bubbles forming occasional tiny stalactites and stalagmites, connected by short, thin columns.
Aroma – 3.25 – Begins vaguely sweet with a bit of chocolate malt, no hops, and no yeast. Weak.
Flavor – 3.5 – Begins slightly bitter with a chocolate malt taste, no hops, no yeast. No alcohol (7.1 % ABV, as marked on container) found in either nose or taste. Gastric warming does not occur. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium, watery, lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.25 (After deducting 0.25 point for an undated container) Quite nondescript. Very drinkable but certainly not something I’ll seek out unless they start dating the bottles. The hops are certainly well-hidden, not unexpected for Fuggles and Golding, but the suppression of Warrior makes me think this bottle is old.

Cellared 5 plus years. A little concerned that the ABV is a little low for it being cellar for 5 year. A massive two finger head with okay retention. The head is medium light tan head that is rocky and foamy. The color of the beer dark brown with some reddish brown hues.

N: A nice dark roasted malt with coffee, chocolate, so port notes, raisins, molasses, and dried figs.

T: A rich roasted malt with coffee, chocolate, port, raisins, bread, molasses, dried figs, yeast, and earthy.

M: A strong carbonation, medium body, slightly creamy.

This is far better than the barleywine that I tried a few days ago. It is a good example of baltic porter, I can taste the age on the bottle. I think I pushed it a tad too far. A good beer nonetheless.

Cellared 2 years. L: deep brilliant chestnut, 2” tan finely bubbled foam cap, moussey and persistent head S: a touch of sherry and over ripe fruit T: Caramel, not a lot of roast, some intense creaminess, hints of cola and chocolate, traces of pepper. F: medium high carbonation, medium to medium full body O: A big, interesting porter that handles 2 years in the cellar quite well.
