bomber bottle, poured into a straight sided glass.

A- translucent amber, with a puffy white head and retains and laces fairly well

S- some herbal hops, but mostly caramel and biscuity malts.

T- Some herbal/floral hops up front that are soon crushed by the malt bill. Quite english tastes of caramel and heavy breads. Ends sticky and bitter on the palette, but has a lingering sweetness that doesn't quite work. They cite cascade hops several times on the label, but I can't find the orange rind in this for the life of me.

M- Sweet and sticky, not really what I'm looking for in this style.

O- kind of a higher ABV/gravity version of HopDevil that is way to heavy on the malt bill. Strives for greatness, but just falls short in a jumbled mess. (749 characters)

Appearance - This poured a thick brown in color with a tinge of orange and almost no head at all. The liquid looked great but the top was AWOL.

Smell - There's some nice citrus hops in the nose but nothing too powerful. The surprise for me was the malt. I expect a big, juicy malt contribution to the DIPA nose and instead it's more like a strong English bitter.

Taste - Egad, this is more like en English Ale. The hops are herbal with some mild citrus notes but are way too small for the style. Where are the DIPA malts? This is supposed to be a big beer with a big malt base and it's toasty and putrid.

Mouthfeel - This is medium-bodied with some mild carbonation and an English bitterness that could kill a horse.

Sinkability - I don't know where all of the 4+ reviews are coming from; this beer was crap. (812 characters)

A: The beer is crystal clear amber in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high off white head that died down, leaving thick lacing on the surface, a collar around the edge, and webs of bubbles down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of biscuit and caramel malts are present in the nose.
T: Similar to the smell, the overall taste is mostly dominated by flavors of biscuity and caramel malts. There is just a slight amount of bitterness, but the hops mostly serve to mask any associated sweetness from the malts.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer tastes like an Imperial English India Pale Ale, if there was such a style since it isn't very hoppy. It is rather drinkable as it hides any traces of alcohol.

Pours a hazy amber orange color with a finger of yellow stained foam for a head. Fair amount of lacing on the glass. Nose is a very sweet smelling candy/fruity mixture of hops and malt. The malt aroma comes across as being caramel and something very similar to cotton candy. Hop aroma is hidden behind the malt but it comes through minorly as cascade's identifiable grapefruit scent.

Taste is malty sweet up front and slightly caramel-like with a nice lingering bitterness from the hops. The alcohol pokes through into the finish of the flavor as well, it is slightly astringent. Medium feel and low carb. Overall it's not bad, ABV saves it for me. (650 characters)

22 oz. bomber courtesy TheManiacalOne, thanks Mark!

This beer poured a dark, murky and very hazy brown amber with a 2 finger head. If I didn't know any better I would have guessed that someone just took a sample from a dirty pond and handed it to me. It had very good lacing throughout the sample however.

It smelled of old hops, faint citrus and malt. I couldn't get anything out of this beer.

The carbonation was slightly above medium carbonation. I found the taste to be very astringent and dry. There was no balance between the hops and the malts. I couldn't finish the entire bomber much less a whole pint.

I could not recommend this beer to anyone. It was unbalanced and overly hot. (693 characters)

I had this in Federal Jack's, where it was listed as a seasonal at 9.65% ABV. Downstairs in the store, I bought a growler of it, which said it was a test batch for Pugsley's Signature Series, and was listed as 8.75% ABV. Anyway, this was a pretty good DIPA. Served in a 12oz tumbler, the beer was an amber color with a medium-sized ecru head and quite a bit of lacing. It had a strong citus aroma, and also a bit of pepper. Some sweet malt at first taste, quickly overrun with grapefruit. Little bit of spice to it. This beer was a mouthful, and very enjoyable. (561 characters)

Had this on my first trip to the SeaDog brew pub in South Portland.

It pours golden amber with little head true to a cask

The aroma is flora hops not over the top reminds me of dogfish 60 sweet citrus but with the trademark buttery aroma true to a Pugley beer nice

The taste is similar to the aroma it is sweet floral hops a nice citrus it is also full of crystal malts making a buttery taste it then finishes with a bitter end very light nice (447 characters)

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Reddish amber color, with an off white head, mild lacing on the glass.

Smell: Sweet honey, hops, citrus and pine.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth medium bodied. Taste of honey, with bitter pine and hops, mild citrus.

Overall: Not a bad take on an Imperial IPA, the sweet honey like flavor is nice. I like it but it is not my first choice. (386 characters)

Pours clear, oily orange-gold with a short-lived one finger white head. Thick lacing. Soapy pine hops with some caramel sweetness in the nose. Fortunately, the taste is much better. Pine, resin, pine oil, and more resin. No soap, very little earthiness. Some grapefruit and lemon, but more of the citrus zest than the actual fruit flavor. Good malt backbone doesn't get in the way but balances the hops nicely. Tart, dry finish. Very easy to drink, considering the ABV. Happy to finally try this one. (500 characters)

22oz bomber poured into a 33cl Celebrator glass.

Pours a hazy amber with no head but a tiny light yellow rim. Nose is boozy sharp and bitter.

Taste is just like the nose hot and hoppy, and a bit unplesantly so. The alcohol is right up front and very hot. The hops are just coming in as bitterness and that's it, no floral hop flavor at all. (342 characters)

22oz bottle around fridge temp, poured into a snifter, split with friends.

pours out a fairly clear orange, copper color, slight off white head, maybe 1 finger or so. decent retention with some lace that sticks around.

mostly buttery and soapy malts in the aroma, really not much hops. this is a DIPA? maybe a slight herbal quality

definatly more of an english ipa thing going on, almost more malty than it is hoppy. a big buttery, semi-sweet maltiness, a bit of soapiness. light citrus and herbal hops barely break through. some bitterness, but definatly not on an IPA level.

does not feel nearly as big as 9.25%. medium body, nice feeling carbonation, but no resins or oily bitterness that ive come to love with this style.

i can see the whole english thing going on with the buttery malts and what not, but they really shouldnt call this a DIPA. the hops are hardly noticable. (886 characters)
