Hazy brown on the pour into a pint glass from a 22oz bomber. One finger white head was 1 finger high. A small head lasted throughout the beer. Lacing is consistent and lingering. Dry hops, brown sugar, and a bit of citrus is on the nose. Taste was thick. Grains and dry hopped syrupy taste. Mellower on the finish. Carmel notes sprinkle through as well. Mouthfeel is different. Creamy and syrupy thick at the same time. Alcohol is well hidden for a 9+ beer. This beer is good - if you like thicker beers it should bump up to very good.

A- 12oz bottle from the mixed IPA pack poured to a snifter with a dark caramel, amber body and a pinky sized white cap. The head has a fairly thick foamy, creamy texture with good retention.

S- Citrus, zesty hops that also carry pine notes atop a somewhat, but not overly, malty base. Caramel and slightly toasty. Floral and slightly fruit as well.

T- Cascade hops deliver a floral and zesty hop emphasis to the beer's flavor. Also hop notes of pine, herbal and apricot. Malts provide a base with caramel, fresh cracked base grains, toast and biscuit notes. Slight yeast pale fruits and bread.

MF- Frothy, moderately creamy body with a medium-heavy thickness overall. The carbonation is very smooth and it lands in a medium-high level. Finishes with a slight warming and moderately bitter feel on the palate.

After reviewing this mixed pack of IPAs from Shipyard I am left happy with my $14 purchase for the 12-pack. A solid pack with a Black, English, Double and American IPAs. I think they deserve just a bit more credit.

12oz bottle, the last part of the mixed case of IPAs from Shipyard.

This beer pours a clear, medium copper amber hue, with two fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and slightly bubbly ecru head, which leaves some decent frothing ocean swell lace around the glass as it slowly subsides.

It smells of sharp fresh pine needles, creamy, yet still bitter orange and grapefruit citrus, rather sweet caramel and toffee malt, and leafy, weedy, and well-perfumed hops, the alcohol bristling at the gate. The taste is more doughy, sweet caramel malt, one fairly enveloped in booze, a generic bitterness that is hard to parse into either green flora or citrus hop notes, and a more specific leafy, over-perfumed character.

The carbonation is fairly understated in its basically frothy demeanour, the body a decently solid medium weight, and more or less smooth, the alcohol trumping the hops for interference rights. It finishes off-dry, with a strengthening trend to the hoppy bitterness and drying booze esters.

Not a particularly enjoyable DIPA, it seems like once again, somebody on the East Coast tried to imperialize an English-style IPA, and you get this - a perfumed, acrid morass of a beer. It's not bad, but it is missing all the good things that make the American DIPA, well, good, and for that, I doubt that I would want to revisit this one.
