Pours a creeiply bright and vibrant red colour, don't see a lot of beers quite reach that pre-school red paint colour but here it is. Head is whispy, slightly off-white-to-beige. Lace is decent; not all that sticky. Pretty good though.

Smells reasonably sweet, but very subdued, with subtle stone fruit notes, a touch of metallic aroma, maybe some smoke and some rubber. FAirly fresh, with a hint of tartness. Ultimately, though, a bit weak, especially for the strength.

Taste is wow, quite a lot more potent. Starts off in typical bitter territory with a touch of American hoppiness to it, but gets a big boozey-fruit character midway that flaunts its stuff right to the end. Quite big, with an almost cognac whiff and some sour cherry notes. Oh, it's really quite odd. Like there's not much malt but a great deal of booze on there. Really gets more intense at the back, building to a slight rubbery flavour. Weird and quite intense. Not without its likeable points but I think it's a bit overcooked.

Decent fullness, not a lot of texture. Present most prominent on the boozey back; not bad.

Bit weird, a bit odd but there's plenty of salvageable material here, and I wish I just warmed to this more readily.

Pour into wide mouth clear pint beer glass ... nice color, great aroma, nice small bubble head .. first taste .. OMGosh, one word: Freak'n Awesome .. continued sipping, enjoying the aroma, the bitter but smooth hoppiness .. reminded me of a Barley Wine. I let it sit for a while, and warm up .. and it just got better, topping in flavor well into the high 50's, low 60's .. never got bad.. good from the 1st sip to the last. Now on my top 10, no, top 5!

Poured from a 22oz bomber into a tulip, dark hazy amber color with a thin head and nice lacing.

Smells of buttery toffee, vanilla, caramel, not much hop aroma.

Taste of sweet caramel, toffee, some vanilla and fruitiness with firm hop bitterness in the finish. Alcohol is there but not overbearing.

Full bodies mouthfeel, low carbonation. Heavy but not cloying.

Overall, a nice barleywine. Don't have a ton of experience with the style but this has a great sweet malt backbone, just enough hops and alcohol. I'd hunt this one down again.

NOTE: bottle was from 2012, aged about 16 months.

This is an excellent bareywine.

Deep copper brown, it has a small pale tan head slowly shrinking to a thin lasting foamy top, veneer, with rich foamy ring.

Aroma is candied wood, caramelised bread crust and dried fruits, hint of sherry.

Taste is rich, full of brandied, candied fruits, caramelised bread, spicy raisiny character, some woody-peppery bitterness & bite supporting a rich sweetness. Feel is full, not too oily or thick, a bit lively, lots of rich toast in aftertaste.

I purchased this at Wegman's in Mechanicsburg, poured chilled from the bomber into a goblet.

The color is deep honey amber with moderate haze and thick cream cap with fine bead. The lace sticks in a ring pattern with good retention in general. The smell is very fruity with a light apple skin and mild sweet stone fruit ester with some light caramel and subtle oxidized sherry-like note with an almost prune-like dried fruit sweet aroma. The feel is decent with moderate bitterness and medium carbonation with thick body and creamy texture of yeast with moderate sweetness and alcohol in the finish.

The taste has a a woody hop flavor mixed with a honey/caramel taste from the malt which is sweet but not cloying, a bit of yeast fruitiness comes through but alcohol flavor soon takes over with some oxidation present in the taste. I liked this for the most part, it is not very cohesive and kind of hits you randomly with hops adding a spiced impact yet a nice dose of malt sweetness is present. Iike the concept more than the actual flavor

Bottle > Pint Glass

A - Cloudy amber with a finger of light khaki head, sudsy, decent rings of lacing though./
S - Very sweet caramel malts, dark pine scent, earthy, herbal, ash, oak.
T -Sweet and boozy, spicy hop resin, aggressive pine, kinda soapy, burnt oak chips.
M - Cloyingly sweet and bitter.
O - Eh not really good, just too much of everything, the bourbon barrel version of this is much better.
