[Best served in Nonic Pint glass]
The pour was a thick pitch black with a huge (3-4 finger) light/medium brown creamy head that lasted throughout and produced some seriously excellent sheeting of lacing which totally engulfed the glass.
The aroma was a tad sweet and had a strong blueberry presence along with some roasted chocolate malts and a sweet doughy yeast with hints of milk chocolate and roasted coffee.
The taste was extremely malty and a bit sweet with the blueberry presence right up front and then progressed into a mild bitter taste with notes of coffee and chocolate (which fought for dominance with the blueberry) before having a mildly sweet finish. The flavor lasted a very long time after the swallow with a nice bitter sweet blueberry chocolate taste, which lead up to a slight alcohol warming sensation at the end.
Mouthfeel was a bit beyond medium in body with a creamy dry texture and a soft carbonation.
Overall a brew which has a mild battle of flavors fighting on the taste buds, eventually neither wins and they wind up blending in a superb fashion creating a fantastic explosion of flavor that leaves you wanting more...

Just enough carbonation to tickle.
A beautiful deep dark.
Although the initial flavor is too bitter, a twang that makes me smack my lips, the aftertaste is phenomenal. The longer, the more subtle, the sweet lingering undeniable blueberry... yum!
It hits you suddenly. A beer perfect as a dessert.

Shipyard's Smashed Blueberry, blueberry porter/scotch ale. 9% ABV. (Why is the foil glued on?)
A: A little less than half a finger of slightly tan head. Black, with a hint of a purplish berry hue. Golden brown in dimple.
S: Cooked blueberry, as soon as the bottle opens, liked in blueberry pancakes. I'm having trouble placing the secondary aroma, due to the power of the blueberry. Something earthy. There's a sweet makeup-y smell. A hint of smoke, perhaps. Ah. After sipping a bit, the earthy quality is charcoal!
T/MF: Interesting. It starts out dark, but without a distinct flavor. A bit of dark chocolate and char. Medium roast coffee. Blueberry comes as it settles in, and is quite light. Slight licorice before the finish. Finish is a faint blueberry and a light char, and lasts fairly long. The flavor is very light, actually.
Poured from a 22 oz. bottle, into a Belgian tulip glass.

Pugsley you dog! This stuff is great.
A - Very deep blue/purple that is pretty much black. Amazing head that doesnt ever seem to leave. The lacing follows all the way through this one.
S - Best smelling beer I've ever come across. Not because I love the smell of blueberrys, but more because I think its crazy how I can smell this distinct flavor from 5 feet away from just one 9 oz glass.
T - Perfectly balanced between blueberry, dark malts, chocolate, and coffee. Its like a chocolate covered blueberry with 9%ABV. Those few flavors really balance the sweetness and bitters/malts to create a perfect beer that pairs wonderful with some of your favorite spring and fall foods. If you stumble upon it then try it! The reviews are really on point for this one. Great beer.
M - Great lacing, heavy body, wonderful taste. Even throughout start to finish.
O - Good work Shipyard/Pugsley. You really have a couple of wonderful gems.
