Fuggles is a single-hopped, dry, crisp ale that is wonderfully balanced and deceptively smooth.

Presentation: 12oz. amber bottle. Best by date of May-03.

Appearance: Poured a clear honey color. Minimal head but nice patchy lacing of the glass.

Smell: Not much here. Minimal aroma of citrusy/floral hops.

Taste: Harsh. I'm not sure if that's the right adjective, but that's what popped into my head. Like it was unrefined and waiting to havethe finishing touches put on it. Starts off OK, but there is a really astringent, "gravel"-like bitterness that takes over at the end. There's also a "smoky" taste the shows up right at the end that threw me. I'm not sure if perhaps multiple types of hops might make this a little more palateable, but it was tough to drink this one.

Mouthfeel: Average. Fairly creamy and medium-bodied.

Drinkability: The harshness of the beer makes the drinkability score suffer. A nasty coating of aftertaste lingers in the mouth, making me feel as though I need to rinse my mouth. Tough to finish this one.

On tap at The Good Life in Massapequa... Medium gold color with a finger of ivory foam... Remarkably unremarkable beer - had some grain and fruit impressions, maybe muted citrus among them, and a little bit of earthy pine... Medium body felt a bit tacky and sluggish? I'm a finisher, but I left half of this in the glass.

On a bit of an IPA ride lately I brought this home as part of a pick six and was eager to give this one a try. Poured a medium/dark opaque orange with a nice white head but the head didn't last. Had a nice smell but not the hoppy smell that most IPA's have. Just a average earthy smell could not pick up any citrus at all. Taste was nothing special. Slight bitterness with a dry almost metallic finish. Feel was not unpleasant but far from what I was hoping for. The fuggle hop certainly is not what Im used to in an IPA . Overall I was not real impressed but again it was not what I have been used to in an IPA.I haven't tried a lot of English IPA's so maybe my rating is a little harsh. Not bad but not my favorite.

A very, very average IPA. It pours a hazy copper with a slim head. The scent is subtle hints of earth. The taste is lacking in hop presence a little for an IPA. Overall it's an average beer - nothing too fancy.

Darker yellow, 1/3" white head. Gotta love freshness dates. Aroma was whoof, dog shit and butter diaectyl like notes, even if not huge.

Taste was mild in every regard, hops, malt, d infection, earthiness. Not impressed.
